(If you look closely you can see the second he is in front of the chicken he starts hitting it)

 

When you are infront of him he does not swing, it is only after you and your companion have hit him up out of the water does he begin hitting. I replayed this clip a fair few times. If it was trigger bot it would have been triggered when you got infront of him also he would not have hit you but would have still been hitting the chicken
