Claims not working propperly in Survival

My ign is _Horse_man. I abandoned 4 small claims and tried to reclaim as one but it says it is still claimed. I am on the Survival server, my client is ver. 1.8.9.

 

Go around and check all of the edges of the claim you want to claim, if this doesn't work try reclaiming it as 4 small chunks.

 

I did that and I tried a small chunk it still says it is claimed.

 

What is the exact message?

 

"Your existing area overlaps an existing claim". I only did a small area and I rt clicked with the stick to ensure every block was unclaimed.
