It's because we can't trust new members as some tend to just join to wreak havoc, I think

This is a bad Idea I think and should be removed, it takes up a moderators time doing something completely pointless (sometimes).
Instead the Xenforo (forums system) should have a filter to block any unnecessary profanity.

It prevents spam bots.
