Its a way of expriming my opinion when I dont feel like writing something, its not 'contradictor' since I was pointing out that u guys shouldn't care about the ratings I give to my friends
It's a bad way to put across a point on a discussion. And honestly, I for one don't really care that you rate your friends with a like every time they post something. That's why I said I'd rather they removes ratings altogether.
Can we please stay on the topic of this thread. I am hoping to find a solution to better clarifying the rule. Not battle eachother.
I dont think we should remove the ratings but thats my opinion btw nerds, just wanna point out that wolfwhispers does not like everything I post and she never 'rate abuse' me
You are allowed an opinion, nobody said otherwise. It's based on this rule though, that would make you seen abusive in terms of rating for no reason at all. You and your friends were singled out as you are the people who all have much higher Like to Message ratio.
I'd also like it if people would stop using my ban as an example. I've already stated that I now realize that it was rate abuse, and I take responsibility for it. It was never my intention, but I still dealt with the consequences like any other member. As for what @Pulchritudinous accussused me, wolfbane, thorraks, and madi of, I'm going to try and fix that. I've had a higher "like to message" ratio on every single forums I've ever joined. The reason is because I post more often on profiles, than I do in actual threads.
Just remove the rule and stop banning people over ratings or change it so the so called "abuser" can't rate anymore instead of a ban. I've never seen this issue in any other forums of any kind. Honestly this shouldn't be a problem. Pile you should know this is needless.
I admit that I have been guilty of this in the past, and i apologize for that, but it has only been intentional a couple of times. As for Savannah, I don't think she's ever done it on purpose; not sure about the others though. :p
Why not just limit the number of ratings a user can give out a day or something. Say 4. And if 3 of those 4 go to the same player, rate abuse?
I admit that I've never rated people with the thoughts of getting players on here a virtual rank, such as "experienced member.". It all doesn't matter to me because I don't care about ratings. If I like one of my friends posts, then I like it. I don't like every one of their posts though as I think that would be excessive, and would violate the rules. Yet somehow the accusation that we all "avoid" the rules and "cover up" was made. Doesn't surprise me, honestly.
I don't think that's fair. Maybe 5 ratings to the same person can be given per day, but they can't be all positive, can't be all negative, etc. There's still a flaw in it, though, because it's hard to keep track.
Just any 5 ratings simplifies it. Not really if it's limited. If so, a seperate tab on profiles for ratings? Divided by date.
How bout u dont get banned for rate abuse but u lose ur permission to rate people for like 2 days or soemthing like that
This does happen. We have a protocol: warn one day ban one day mute 30 day rating permission removal perm removal to rate This is standard as of right now. HOWEVER due to the clarification issue with rate abuse it's hard to follow this. We most generally remove the ratings and tempban or mute depending. (currently)
I dislike posts I don't like, it's just I give more than average and so a player may get two or three from me in a week and think he's special and report me.
Here is the thing, no matter what rule you try to implement you will never be able to get a set rule because of the nature of rates abuse. If someone rates 3 negatives in a short period of time and have a valid reason: eg 3 posts someone made were deserving than what is the harm? The solution isn't about finding a system to punish, it is defining rates abuse firstly so everyone is on the same page. Next you need to take into consideration the different situations that would exist within rates abuse. This comes with experience. For this example I will go with the following: Overuse of negative ratings on one person Overuse of negative ratings on multiple people Profile post Like farming Overuse of positive ratings Revenge rating/rates wars Set a guideline for each issue, detailing what constitutes as abuse and what doesnt. This is easier said than done, but the conclusion must not involve stating a number. Why? because people like to be smart and will push the boundaries. If you say "Do not rate people excessively with negatives" this could span from 3 in an hour all the way to 5 a day. Mods need to define what is excessive, much like mods would go in game and determine what is excessive caps in a message, what is excessive cussing, what is excessive breeding etc. If no one can reach a solution and proper rules to combat the use of ratings then the solution is to simply remove ratings from the forums and go back to Xenforo's basic like system, if at all possible, then it is simply a matter of stopping people from like farming, a much easier situation to define and combat. But what do I know? I don't come from a forums that actually knows how to handle rates abuse do I... oh yeah
