I noticed that people have been ranting about the moderator issues here and there and honestly, I think the right thing to do is to not cuss them out and berate them for their inactivity because they have lives too. Hackers are a huge issue, and they always find ways to slip through the cracks and avoid mods. I used to hack, but I now do not as it is terrible thing to do. I know someone who I am still friends with that I try to convince not to hack, but they still do. They keep me updated on which type of clients appear where, and they mainly play on the basically hacker owned server UberMC. I know them and the type of people that hack and I know we need something different than a moderator to deal with them because they cannot always be on. I have been thinking of several solutions. I thought up of an idea for a new sort of role. This role would be more of a police-orientated moderator will less powers, and would be mainly designed to combat hackers. It would have more of a less friendly approach to it, being mainly people looking for hackers and not being friendly. They of course can, but still will be mainly focused on finding people. They will only have the powers to use /vanish everywhere, and /fly everywhere to catch hackers, and tempban for maybe a day till a moderator can look at sufficient proof for that person to be banned. These will be only the powers that they have, nothing more. Maybe even less than a day, just enough to discourage a hacker from coming back on. The point is to get hackers out soon. They also may be able to use a sort of plugin that automatically compares IP's to just tell the person if they have alts, but still not releasing their IP to the person. Also, the rank will be totally invisible so hackers cannot toggle off. The people that get appointed will just need to have a good recording software, be active on the servers at almost all times they can, and have a knowledge of clients so they know what to ban someone for and what different hacks are. Also they will have to be completely trustable, and anyone with the rank doing something bannable will immediately get banned. I also have another separate idea for basically an in-game chat that goes across servers that both this new rank and staff can see used only for telling people to come look at a hacker, and is sort of like a message system that goes to all staff but no one else can see the person who sent it. It was similar to the message system in Mineplex, as I liked that. Even only the chat would be useful to have. These are some ideas that may be a bit radical, yes, but they may just work. EDIT: I realize this sounds dumb but someone has to think of something new.
There is a pluggin that allows Moderators to have the ability to check all the accounts that have been logged in with alts. On a previous server I was Staff on the command was /seen(ip) - Shows all users that have been logged previously with the same IP address. I remember exactly how the command worked because of how much it was used and how successful this was. This command would not release the players IP all it would do was show the players that were alting. I will now show an Example of what it was like: Banned | Account name (that isnt banned) | Account name (Online) This would show up in-game like so: CotnerM CotnerL CotnerC It would show like that in a list of all the people on the server that is online or that logged into mineverse with a banned account. This solved most problems and was an amazing pluggin.
Yeah it sounds pretty useful but unless I misunderstand it, it needs an IP to be put into the command to make it work or something like that, and that would be kinda good, but better if it was automatic and the new rank wouldn't be able to actually view the IP.
No mods, not even myself can see players Ip addresses, there is an alt check plugin though that does the checking for us. As for a police moderator that isnt as friendly. Players would still begin to work out who they were and just toggle when they came on, Also it just wouldnt work. The amount of staff reports we would receive because they weren't helping players out would be immense.
Add some spaces, please. Not gonna bother reading a poorly formatted thread. Scanning through the comments though, I can read something about an ip ban. This idea wouldn't be all that great, as you can easily hide, or change your ip.
This is a pointless rank. If they only ban for a day, and then a moderator has the check for evidence, that’s just adding another step that doesn’t have to be there. Senior mods already have a command that checks for alts, so that’s pointless. Anything to do with literal ip checks is bad, because someone is going to find a way to screw it up or share an ip. Anyone doing something bannable with the rank will be immediately banned? That’s true for rule breakers without any special ranks. No support
True, that would be one of the more downsides. Also I realize this sounds like a bad idea, but I'm just throwing out ideas for people to work on.
Might sound like some good ideas, but I don’t think it will work. A No-Support from me, sorry. But its good you’re giving ideas to people ;)
