I think posts in the "off-topic" subforum should count towards your post count. It's equally as much of a contribution to keep the server alive as making a post elsewhere. This should only apply to the sub-forum "off-topic", not the section "off-topic". So to be clear: posts in "forum games" should NOT give posts. The reason I think this is necessary is because most people on this forum have their posts from being a mod. Let's paste the list of people with most posts: The reason is quite obvious, we do ban logs. Free posts basically: So in essence, the only realistic way to get a high post count is by becoming a staff member. I had about 700 posts 3 months ago when I was promoted. Oh wow look now I have 1500. What a shocker. I believe this change would increase forum activity as a whole. I have for years avoided posting stuff in Off-Topic because I gain basically nothing from doing so lol One of the trophies is also posting 10k posts. I think this would help make that trophy reachable for more people
Support. One question though, would previous posts in this off-topic section be updated and increase our post count from before if this does get implemented?
This would be nice and all for people to get a higher post count. But I think Off-Topic doesn't give a post count for a reason. It's a place where people can freely talk about an endless variety of subjects with everyone else on the forums without having to worry about violating the post farming rule. All the sections of the forums where posting goes towards your post count each have their specific topics in each section and thread. You post once or twice on a mod app and a suggestion to leave your opinion. You help people in the help section. In Discussion, well... you discuss server related topics. It's like that for the rest of the forums. In the Off-Topic section, forums members are free to talk about [reasonably] anything without having to worry about the post farming rule. And I'm sure we can all agree forum activity has gone down alongside with server activity over the years, so it's nice to have a place that can be posted freely on. I'm gonna have to go with a no support for the reason I explained.
Understandable, but I'd still consider those posts contribution towards the server and should therefore be rewarded. There is a difference between post farming and posting on multiple threads. Writing a proper response different from "xd", "yes agreed" or "support" isn't post farming if u ask me. You also have the most posts on this forum, so I'd assume you agree the only way to get posts is by being staff. If this suggestion was to be implemented I agree people shouldn't be punished for posting 5 posts in a little time span if they're actually proper responses I don't think it would be a problem anyway. The way you describe off-topic sounds to be in favour of the people who go on the forums once a day or once a week and wants to spam posts the little they're on without being punished. I believe active players who are on the forums multiple times every day should be prioritised
Neutral. Some of the most active people who have posted in the Off-Topic section are current and former staff members anyway.
It's not really contributing to the server. No off-topic threads pertain to mineverse, and if there are, they don't belong there(some exceptions apply). And not everything people do needs to be rewarded. People can do things without needing a reward or looking for a reward for their actions. The top posters on the forums are there not because they were staff, that might have helped, but the main reason why they're there is because they were active when mineverse was popular. When the forums had people posting every second. When the amount of active mod apps went on to page 5, now we barely have a half a page of active mod apps. When ban appeals actually had conversations on them because valid bans could be appeal-able, and they were public as well. Etc. Adding this suggestion would just make the older members have even more messages, because you can be darn sure they were actively posting in the Off-Topic section as well. It's in favor of making mineverse's forums more active, closer to what they used to be.
