You Know its because no one played on Factions2 that it got shutdown. But now all people who used to play on skyblock will play on skyblock2 so they wouldn't shut it down.
I think that I still come back to the point that hacked items only hurt those who have them. I have played skyblock without the use of hacked items (aside from buying beacons from a shop) quite successfully. If players have tons of hacked items preventing them from enjoying the game, chuck them over the edge. I have easily been able to tell myself that I will not buy things like diamond armor, or diamond blocks,etc. It is really up to the players to decide to use the items or not. If you don't want hacked items, don't use/buy them. I truly think that to reset skyblock because some players have large quantities of items unfairly punishes the vast majority of players. Just think of how many players on skyblock would see all of their legal hardwork go to waste because a few people have large amounts of hacked items.
