I think that a lot of it could be client lag because I play a lot of prison and rarely have any lag. You might want to see how fast your internet is or sometimes doing certain things will help you get rid of lag (for example if you have a laptop plugging it in takes away the lag most of the time)
Since I, nor others have had lag on the server it is most likely client sided. Here is a list of solutions: -Mess around with video options. Set everything to fast if possible and remove any HD texture packs just in case. This should speed up framerate -Get optifine. Optifine is a great legal modification that you can use to edit settings and speed up your game. I highly recommend it. -Reset your router *IF you know how TO reset a router, first locate it, find the power cord. Then do the great IT tech support trick. Unplug it, wait 10 seconds, and plug it in. -Get a better computer. Nuff said. Hope this helped :O
