(Ok, well I intended to post this thread yesterday, but because of the forums downtime, I couldn't. So I'll post it now) Today is World Humanitarian Day, a day to honor Humanitarian Heroes, who have lost their lives, and those who continue to serve in harsh conditions and at great risk to themselves. One area where humanitarians are going the extra mile is in South Sudan, where 50,000 children could die from severe malnutrition by the year's end. They are doing whatever it takes to bring these children food and medical care, even in the most remote areas. Last month, humanitarian workers were killed by armed fighters doing just this. We are amazed by their courage, and we demand their protection so they can reach these children, with urgent treatment, so that they can recover thrive. You can help UNICEF save children's lives. ~Katy Perry, 8/19/14 Now for my two cents. These humanitarian humans are amazing. They risk their lives to help the world grow, to keep these suffering children alive. We are fortuned, to live in the USA/UK/AUS with food, a roof over out head, a comfortable place to sleep. The children in South Sudan sleep on rugs, some of them don't have houses. They drink water from the dirty riverbeds, they barely eat. Hundreds of children all over Africa and in other parts of the world are suffering. We can do something. We have money, and we can donate to these services that help the children. When my mom lived in Peru, she wasn't in UNICEF, but she worked with another then- group to help children. She was moved to Colombia for 6 months. She helped these children, or families that needed food and water. I hope this message helps you understand that everyone needs a little help, I made this thread because of Humanitarian Day, and I just had to share my thoughts.
My aunt and uncle work with UNICEF. They live in Nigeria and whenever I visit them, I find out ways to help. They work with children without parents and without food and safe water. I have 1 cousin who's 7, a girl, adopted from Nigeria. This thread is wonderful <3
