      -=-How To Increase FPS-=-

Minecraft doesn't come perfect without some tweaks. After all, experimenting is fun, right? Just make sure you follow the directions so you don't mess anything up!

Way #1: Allocating more RAM to Minecraft

Minecraft normally starts with 1 GB (Gigabyte) of RAM (Random Access Memory). If you allocate more RAM to Minecraft, it will make worlds run faster and basically enhance your game- FPS (Frames Per Second) increasements, less lag.
Since Minecraft version 1.6.+ you have one way to allocate more ram. With this, it is possible to integrate Java commands directly into the game. Here is what you have to do:
-In the section "Profile Selection" click on "Edit Profile"
-Under "Java Settings (Advanced), activate "JVM Arguments" and add into the text area this argument:
      -Xmx2048M -Xms2048M
-Save this profile and execute Minecraft. You will always start with 2GB of RAM.
Want to allocate more RAM? Well you can! Just type in different JVM Arguments. Remember that Java 32-bit can only handle 4 GB of RAM. The limit depends on the system, and if you have 64-bit Java, you'll be able to allocate more than 4 GB of RAM. If you get any errors, edit the profile again and try less allocation.
      1 GB allocation -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M
      2 GB allocation -Xmx2048M -Xms2048M
      3 GB allocation -Xmx3072M -Xms3072M
      4 GB allocation -Xmx4096M -Xms4096M
      5 GB allocation -Xmx5120M -Xms5120M
      6 GB allocation -Xmx6144M -Xms6144M
      8 GB allocation -Xmx8192M -Xms8192M
You can add more RAM to allocate, just add the number after the -Xmx and -Xms by 1024!
Remember that you cannot allocate more RAM then you already have.
To check how much RAM you have-
For Windows 7, go to Start>Computer>Right Click>Properties. Then scroll down and look for the RAM amount.
On my Windows 7, this is what it shows for the RAM: [IMG] Using this information, I could allocate up to 4 GB of RAM to Minecraft.
For Windows 8, right click the desktop and click 'My Computer', then look for the RAM you have. In this example, I have 8 GB of RAM: [IMG] I would probably only use up to 4 GB of RAM on this one.
For Macs, one of these ways will work for you: From the apple menu, select 'About This Mac' and the number after the memory part is how much RAM you have. If this doesn't work, do as follows: From the apple menu, select 'About This Mac'. Then click more info, then click memory. This will show your RAM. In this example, we have this: [IMG] I would only want to allocate up to 4 GB of RAM so all the RAM isn't being used.
Have an error? Make sure you didn't misspell or copied wrong. Then make sure you have the full version of Java installed as the pre-version doesn't support memory.

Way #2: Install the OptiFine mod

OptiFine is a simple mod that can be used on basically every Minecraft version. It is really simple to install, just make sure you download the right version for OptiFine. Note that you must have the selected version of Minecraft installed before you download OptiFine for it.
More about OptiFine, it bolsters your Minecraft performance, as I and many others have experienced. FPS will definitely be larger then it used to be. FPS is Feet Per Second, and this means how much feet per second your Minecraft generates. If it is about 0-30, you will be super laggy. If it is about 30-40 you will face moderate lag. High 40's-60, you should receive little to no lag at all. Anything beyond 60 is practically lag-free, without lag spikes or server connection errors.
Download OptiFine here. It is 100% free and virus free. It is simple to download; once you downloaded the version you wanted, simply click on it and then hit install. OptiFine will automatically create itself a profile that will increase your FPS for sure.
I heard that OptiFine for macs is a bit more complex, so here is a video for it:

      Way #3: Change settings

There is a lot of settings in Minecraft that slows your performance down. You can turn them off or lower to make it less laggier for you to enjoy. Note that this way doesn't exactly make Minecraft look all crappy, it doesn't really change much.
First, go to options. This can be available via escape or from the Minecraft screen. Then go to 'Video Settings'. Make the following changes: Note that I am using OptiFine, so don't mind the add-ons:
This is a simple yet effective way to boost your FPS. You will suffer render distance though, not allowing you to see that far in the world.
Another simple thing to do is to use the Minecraft default textures, as texture/resource packs make Minecraft work harder to load chunks, thus causing FPS lag. Finally, you can use Minecraft at a lower screen resolution by not letting it go fullscreen. Sure, it might be annoying to play in a small window, but Minecraft will run faster.

Way #4: Optimizing your PC for gaming

Optimizing your PC for gaming allows your PC to prioritize games to be put to their full potential, in other words, making games run faster. Optimizing your PC for gaming will allow Minecraft to get more FPS! Since it is a bit complicated to describe, I will offer videos:
      Windows 7

      Windows XP/Vista

There is download links in the video CCleaner download here
      Smart Defrag download here
      Avast Antivirus download here
      Malwarebytes Antimalware download here

      Windows 8

There is links in the video CCleaner download here
      Samsung Magician download here

Mac (Couldn't exactly find optimizing, but this will make your Mac run faster)

Links in that video for downloads:

      AppCleaner: http://danfl.co/QRBT
      OnyX: http://danfl.co/QQce

Way #5: Check for Java updates

Java is the main runner of Minecraft. If you have a non-updated version of Java, this might be why your Minecraft is processing slowly!
It is quite simple to check; go to this link to make sure that your Java is updated (Allow use of Java if necessary) and that's all! If you need to update it, update what needs updating, and there you go!

Way #6: Buy/Build a better PC and parts

Sometimes, there is simply a point in your gaming life where your PC may be just too old for Minecraft, or not good enough. Building/buying a gaming PC will make Minecraft run much more smoothly. Sometimes this can be very costly, but it's all you can really do, unfortunately...
Also, a more affordable way is to buy a better graphics card. Graphics cards really just make your computer run faster in general, which is always good! [IMG]

Without Skype I wouldn't really be able to explain it that much, just search on youtube on how to add more ram to minecraft. :) Message me your Skype if you want me to explain it :P

Lag spikes might be the issue with your rendering or the internet.
I would check your minecraft Video Settings first.

It's stopped, it was just this virus, I realized it when the lag grew worse and then some random "Cpu slow? Get this piece of (good for nothing) software!"
