  • How to Kill a server economy with kindness

      When survival becomes creative some problems can arise. Strong and thriving survival servers are a delicately balanced thing at times. As with any real economy, an in game survival economy is a balance of supply and demand. This balance determines overall economic growth as well as the development of individual in game communities as part of a greater survival community. Economy stimulates not only in game balance but interaction between established and new players alike. The need for something. The supply of something. These interactions lead to friendships, which in turn draw in other players creating cluster communities. Many of which grew in the MV instance around various industries. Slime farming, iron farming, leather farming, gold and diamond trade to name a few. These industries existed in the perfect gaps left by items that were NOT sold in warp shop. These industries basically no longer exist in server anymore. The various communities which thrived and grew around the economically driven, social interactions that occured have withered and many died. Server logs will show (if kept ) the drop in regular players on server.

      This all has two main implications.
      *People dont bother to bring in friends to a server they dont rate that highly. New players who log in to a lack of online social interaction are quickly logging off and not returning.
      *Established players are leaving. Challenge has been removed from the survival server. Which is kinda a problem because the point of survival..is challenge. Survival has become a creative server. Killed with kindness by a warp shop which has been generously overstocked and under priced making many of the aspects which made the server thrive....pointless.

      I fully acknowledge the re-vamp to shop was done in good faith. But it has been a step too far. Items need to be reduced...Some industry related prices increased to afford a player based economy to exist again. If u want to be generous with a warp shop add animal spawners for 100k, decrease other items, increase industry related item prices and watch the sucker take off again.

      I agree in every single word in this thread. After the survival shop rebamp the economy is broken. You didn't think on players having shops (Owning a shop was one of the main activities from players on survival).
