I know they won't be back till the bug is fixed. But i think they're a big part of minecraft and they should give more attention to fixing it.
Hoppers are useful for alot of things. Grinders, automatic stuff, chest organization, and more.

Well, there are hiders who run around a map and find a good spot to morph into a block/animal and blend in so the hunters hopefully don't realize...
