Theres a few ways you can do it. You can do it by lan. which needs you to be in the same house. By a server for under $3-5 dollars a month or Create your own by going to Minecraft.com and go to download The server jar but that takes awhile to set up.

There is also a thing called Hamachi. It is like 2 people are on the same lan.
