Comics. Their fandom is quite large, causing the movie to grow large.

In my opinion it's under-rated. Everyone hates it because of what the critics say about it. Everyone expected it to be like a Marvel film where everyone survives and it's a happy ending. However, this is DC and is completely different. On top of that, Suicide Squad is a task force made up of VILLIANS, of course it's not going to be what you expected.

Yes but think of movies like divergent, insurgent and allegiant. They were based off books, those movies didn't follow the story line at all yet they didn't get too much hate

Suicide Squad was under a very strict schedule, they had to be ready to release by August 5th no later. If you have seen the deleted scenes that were leaked onto reddit then you will understand how good that the movie could have been given more time.
