There is indeed a limit to the island size. I believe it is 100x100 (may be 90x90 cannot recall specifically offhand) for total size. The good news is that you can change where your /sethome is on your island as needed.

So if you wish to have your "spawn" on one side of the island to prevent the other side from loading, you can do so.

When building will I be greeted with some sort of chat indication that I have reached a border coordinate within the allowed space, or the inability to place blocks; or am I at risk of expanding beyond said border resulting in some sort of consequence?

Indeed. Basically you will no longer be able to place blocks, not sure if you get a permissions error message anymore. Before the update you did, but I have not tried since the update, so not sure on exact behavior when you hit the limits.

I would encourage keeping minimal items on you should you be placing blocks while walking backwards and have a block despawn underneath you while tracing the outline.

Well, I felt having an airship "dock" to the current spawn may provide a nice tie-in with what is already there, and just have the shop in the ship as sort of a traveling market.

I'd love to take a peak when you're available.
