As much as cyberbullying is a big deal, there are so many easy ways to get away from it by blocking, unfriending, deleting, ignoring, etc.

I feel like bullying is a bigger priority than cyberbullying itself. With bullying, it's not that easy to disconnect yourself. Trust me, I have been bullied, but I also have became stronger from the experience.

Unlike cyberbullying, you can't just "run away" from it. You are forced to go to school with the bullies, go to class with them, and be bullied by well... The bullies. I'm definitely not saying Cyberbullying is not important. It is. It's a big issue, but there are a lot of ways to solve it.

The Internet was around 15 years ago. In fact 20 or more years ago the public began using it. You have to understand that the way you handle and perceive things isn't the same for others. I do wish people could adopt the attitude that words directed to them, in a negative way on the Internet, are meaningless. But, some don't. To some people, the Internet is their social realm. No good person should ever be bullied or put down on the Internet or not. Treat each other with respect and love. You're only here once. If you are being bullied, follow me on the forums and I'll be there for you.

    Well,
this, and the fact that being cyber-bullied can make a person feel bad in general, causing them to not want to do much or go any where.

Ignoring the problem does not eliminate the problem.

Sure, if someone was being cyber bullied, say here in Mineverse, they could easily walk away, /ignore, turn off the computer.
But most of cyber bullying is on social media that often includes real life attachments.

As an example. Say you were being bullied on your Facebook profile page by someone who goes to your school, who also bullies you there. You could easily delete what was said and block them, but that does not stop them from bullying you. They can still cyber bully you without you even knowing, but everyone else knows. Most of bullying is making the other person feel small using insults, lies, and physical harm. Well the insults and lies can and will keep taking place online even though you have blocked your cyber bully. And all the cyber bullying can easily transition to in-person bullying. Like I said, just because the person has been blocked, doesn't mean the bullying will stop. Like Janice said, bullies look for reactions, and blocking, /ignoring, etc them is reacting to them, so they will most likely continue bullying, and quite possibly intensify the bullying.

All in all, this is a good thread for people dealing with cyber bullying. Lots of helpful tips.

    i appreciate this
i dont really like how many people's solutions is to make the victim walk away rather than teach the other person not to cyber bully
like as if its okay for someone to cyberbully because it's the victim's responsibility in the end to do something anyways

    For people that gets bullied.

Ignore and block your bully on all platforms you can. Persistent cyberbullying can be relentless, so this might not solve the whole problem if the bully has created multiple accounts or avenues to attack you. However, the first step is to both ignore/delete anything you can from them, and report inappropriate posts they make on their own feeds or sites. Most social media sites have a way to flag posts, and to block followers or friends. Use them!

Stay with a group of friends, family, or relatives you know and trust. This way you can avoid unknown, possible rude people or the bullies. Try your best to avoid anybody you don't know who could be rude.

Avoid contact with any bullies. If you see a person from school or outside the online world, avoid them. Don't say anything to them or post anything to that person.

Do not spread gossip about that person. This is just escalating the trouble. Spreading gossip equals big trouble. If you do something to them, chances are they'll try to get back at you.

Don't get into a fight. If they send a message to you or post something on your talk page or whatever, don't answer. Ignore them and don't try to step up. This will just boost their confidence, knowing that you want to fight, or get them fired up, knowing that you angered them.
    • Do not escalate a fight. This will make matters worse. This can really anger the person or just help them. They will feel the need to continue the fight, making it worse, either way.

Tell an adult if you are being bullied. If you are underage, you need to make sure your parents or guardian knows about the problem and can help keep you safe.
