Think about it like this, I used to be the richest on Factions before the reset yet I loved it when Factions reset and OP Factions got released.
Think about it like this. I am a builder I like build. Farms, castles, adventure places, you name it. I invest time and inspiration, build something and... "Great news, people! We have reset! Hey, that' really good for us all!" O'rly? There are servers where map has NEVER been reset. There are measures, there are ways to keep whatever people build since many Minecraft updates ago. It's hard, yes. it requires a hell of work from admins, but it doesn't make me think I just wasted many hours because "That's a fresh start, players! Hooray! Let's celebrate!" Before you tell me "Why you don't return and play on those wonderful servers", I tell you this: if I wouldn't think Mineverse and game servers it assimilated were good, I wouldn't donate to them. No problem, if admins decide that reset is natural and only convenient way to upgrade. But in that case, "museum world' or ability to backup my efforts and paste into some other map would be the least favor i could expect. Hell, I am even going top pay for it, if that matters. Resets are NOT the only way to upgrade the map, they are NOT the only way to handle glitches/balance economy. Just my humble opinion. No offense meant.
The whole concept of "equal chances" is flawed. Since exactly when equal chances are actually possible? If a novice player, which can't build anything of real use must have the same chances to gain much land/resources than experienced ones, then you will lose experienced players, since after every reset they will have less and less motivation to resume. If the only thing that administration is interested in is getting new donations, then yes, "everyone will have equal chance" is fine policy. However, you understand very well that experienced players will always have an advantage. They will quicker find better places, will use resources more wisely, build more efficient farms, will co-operate to further enhance the efficiency etc. What they will NOT do is building anything requiring much attention, inspiration and time. Result: the world will all be stuffed with ugly barn-like houses and farms, all landscaped will be stripped bare. As a result, next reset. Here are simple ideas to prevent that: - keep history of original state of map; every time player disposes of their property (claimed areas), they are returned to original state (as in Towny) - forbid using main world for harvesting resources, add mining world for that - if in-game economy is in effect, do tests to disclose obvious and easiest ways to screw it awry, and place reasonable prices to avoid that - let players participate in such a beta stage, and grant them something memorablem such as in-game titles, to reflect their assistance - prevent seeing global /baltop for everyone, to eliminate much problems resulting from comparison vanity parameter "in-game balance", which almost never reflects real player's capabilities, only skill to defeat economy's balance The above requires more work from administration, yes. But I, personally, have no motivation currently to donate to server more, since there's no reason to build anything really efficient, big and aesthetic. Update: the concept of periodic resets isn't that absolutely evil. In fact, if it's a specific game mode, "Chaos Survival", when frequently parts of world or it as a whole are reset, could be a separate game mode, perhaps very attractive. But let be a mode when people can build something big and beautiful, knowing they can keep it.
It has been half a month since the last post and the survival server hasn't been reset yet. Any ETA? Or is it not happening. :(
I checked. The sever hasn't. The old warps still work, you still have the same money and the terrain still is a griefed landscape.
They should do what they did with factions. Have the new map and all, but have the old map as a different game mode and give it a different warp name.
