    Hello,
My suggest is pretty self explanatory. Read the title.

    Why?
I've just been trying to comment or prove a point on my profile page, and I have had to make 5 consecutive posts to get my point across. I'm not saying remove the cap, but honestly, just make it 2-3000. I mean why are we stressing out over 420 characters?

Let's assume it's because of the size of each typed character.

So, in theory, let's assume everyone is using the Unicode encoding. I don't know what this website will be using but I can guess it's UTF-8. A single Unicode character in the UTF-8 encoding is a maximum of 32 bits.
Let's do the math for that then:

(I'm not going to explain data conversion or encoding to you, just trust me...)

    32(bits/per character) x 420(character limit) = 13440
13440 bits in bytes is 1680 bytes.
    1680 bytes is 0.00168 megabytes.

How big is a single megabyte? Great question.

Well, let's not calculate that. But let's calculate how many kilobytes we have so far.
So: so far we have 0.00168 megabytes (or 1680 bytes), this converts to around 1.68 kilobytes.

Let's take for example the Mineverse logo:

This is a size of 38 kilobytes.

So my 420 characters on a profile post is 22.61 times smaller than that little logo at the top of the page.
"But Elliot, SPAMMERS! They might come here and type 6 hundred flabillion letters because... Because... Because they want to!"

Well, let's assume spammers do want to come to Mineverse, with the intention of doing any damage:

1 megabyte (a common, but small unit of size) is equal to this amount of bits: 8e+6
Yup. If you do any maths you'll know you're working with quite a big number if you see 'e'...

Spammers would have to do some SERIOUS copy and pasting before they even reach an effective size.
I have a text file on my desktop (I was working on something, don't judge) with 503739 characters in it, and that's just 504 kilobytes. That's half a megabyte. Still VERY small.

"But Elliot. The spammers are actually terminators from the future designed specifically to spam the Mineverse forums!"

That's... Understandable I guess. So let's assume that these terminators are here with the prime goal of attacking the Mineverse forums. If you're this paranoid, here's a compromise: Active Members+ get the post limit removed.

"But Elliot............ The character limit makes you shorten your point to get it across quicker, a bit like Twitter!"

    Yeah. No.
We shouldn't have a cap on the characters because it will allow use to 'keep it simple' or some other philosophical rubbish. It's our profile, after all, so who cares? If you're going to tell me that we cannot have conversations on a profile because we need to get our point across better, then that's fairly stupid.

I genuinely don't know what else I can address now. I mean hell, this thread is probably more than every profile post on my profile. So I ask: is the only reason the limit is there is so that Cypriot could configure the number '420' somewhere? ;)

    Have a great day.

    god i need a hobby...

    TL;DR:
    - Read the damn post. It took me like 10 minutes.
    - Get rid of the character limit.
    - Press support.

Its wonderful when the members of Mineverse do more research than the Mods of Mineverse...

Yeee boi. u rite i got banned.

I 'resigned' after a year of being a mod. I then was removed from the position. I went to explain to Kinsey that I was still in GM 3 on some servers. When I said 'I'm still in GM3' I had the mod prefix, and he said "Why are you still mod" and BOOM perm banned.

It's been a month. No idea what's meant to be happening right now.
