Yeah, made a thread on this. It's plain stupidity that the word is present in the filter.

It should be pretty self explanatory why some words are in the filter and some are not.
The word fag most likely wasn't thought of when creating the filtered word lists. Of course this I could assume is because the plugin includes default words and these weren't changed.

While is seems stupid that the word Gay and Lesbian are filtered it is the possible offensive usage of the word that could be harmful to someone who identifies as Gay or Lesbian.
On the flip side it can be seen as oppressive or wrong to not allow people to use the term to express themselves. Some people are proud to be gay and don't mind the term.

I think in this case it is a situation where its meant well but not exactly practical.

 

Whatever the reasoning, I think this should be changed.

IMO: Censor 'Fag', and un-censor both 'Gay' and 'Lesbian' if this hasn't already been done.
People may feel offended by improper use of these words ('Gay' and 'Lesbian'), but I believe it is worse to treat these words in the same manner as a curse word. Even if someone tries to use these words in an insulting manner, it's best to simply point out that it's not an insult and to report the player if such behavior continues. I know not everyone is this mature, but I think people are more likely to be hurt if they feel the server has censored these words for the wrong reasons (since not everyone will think of the good reasons to do so), while in contrast, one or two people using these words in a negative manner can simply be ignored and is easier to brush off. To top it off, evading the filter is generally quite easy (happens all the time .-.), so people that use these terms as insult will likely continue to do so even if they are filtered... Having them filtered will probably encourage them to find a way to bypass the filter too.

Edit: Just noticed the message it gives you when you try to say 'Gay' or 'Lesbian';
"Please do not swear, otherwise an action will be taken!"
Forget about "might seem offensive", this is just outright rude.

I know it's most likely just preprogrammed that way, but that doesn't justify leaving it like that.

Why would you even need to use those words to begin with. It's a video game with blocks for kids.

Regardless of what 'kids' are on the server, why would you need to use those type of words to begin with?

 

Sometimes those words come up in conversations, so even if you and I have little use for them, there are other people that do use them. Also, the fact that it's currently filtered out and treated like something bad just doesn't seem right, especially for a server that claims to be against homophobic behavior (since discriminatory comments against LGBT+ can lead to a ban, I assume this server is anti-homophobe.) Besides, when people bypass the filter to use them, it'd be nice if people that are willing to speak up (or simply act in a mature manner) could use those words without receiving some kind of chat warning.

I know Minecraft is "For Kids", but as stated above by others, there are older people that play too. Mineverse has reached a point where there are people that come on solely to talk with their friends...

 

It's an old filter and in an older time, gay was used as an insult. I'm not sure why f*g isn't censored however.

 

immature people is what it is. this shouldn't be censored, but you have immature kids who will abuse these words. you might disagree, but it saves some trouble.

i don't think it should be censored, but the immature people do:
-they do bypass it easily
-try to use the words
-try to use the words as an insult
-and it ruins the word itself...i mean it ruins us from using it for the actual purpose of the word

even though most people bypass it, it actually does save some feelings from being hurt.

 

You are basically saying you think it shouldn't be censored BUT then go on and make a list of how people will abuse it. If you don't want it censored why are you giving all the reasons why it should be.
