Its just a suggestion guys by one of mojang's stuff but notch said that he is gonna change the EULA soon but he stated that server owners are not allowed to make money using their property.
And another reason that they are going to change the EULA is because they want us to buy their realms trash .
But the thing is though, if they get rid of these ranks, multiplayer will become a cold, dark place, they will lose 1000's of people that play this, if they do consider this idea, I'll quit minecraft and show them that you can't take away what was ours, we pay good money for those ranks, to either 1. Get an awesome kit 2. Keep the server running! 3. Show off you skills, If they do take this idea into action, I swear they'll lose over 100's of players that play this, if they were smart enough they'd know that, but I guess that's there problem, they'll come crawling back.
Mojangs reason for doing this is because they dont want children to get "exploited". Mojang should just make it so servers won't be allowed to make donation perks more than about $50.
The EULA is only stating that you cannot pay real-life money for in-game money, You can still buy ranks and everything will be fine. Please do actual research before posting an extremely controversial thread.
You dont pay for gameplay. That is what notch said. And I said this was just a suggestion by one of their staff that they are shutting down every server that do this. I have also said that notch is planning on changing the EULA but it is remained unchanged. Please read and UNDERSTAND my post.
The whole idea of not being able to pay for in-game items has been part of the EULA for quite some time. They (Mojang) are simply re-wording it to make it more clear, and are cracking down. The premise is this: they don't want you selling, say, a mob spawner for $5 USD because they made the mob spawner, they programmed it, they did all of that. You selling an in-game item is, technically, claiming that you have some authoritative ownership of it (you do not). The thing is, you can sell a subscription to a server (i.e. donor rank) because the rank itself is not Mojang's property. They did not come up with that rank, they did not program the commands that go with it, you (theoretically) programmed/made it yourself. It runs into some gray areas when that rank contains a kit command, and similar things. Overall, they simply don't want to foster a community where you have to pay money to unlock content, they are trying to get rid of the pay-to-win mentality found on many servers. You should be thankful.
There is a little petition to stop this by the way if anyone cares to sign it. https://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/mojang-change-your-eula Need about 500 more on that petition if I recall right.
Here is a little bit on what mojang recently said about this: https://mojang.com/2014/06/lets-talk-server-monetisation/ We are okay guys :P
i dont think this is going to happen it already friday the 13th LOL. I just dont belive its gunna happen so i disagree
It isn't happening at all. If you look at my post above you will see that Mojang changed their minds/cleared up the EULA a bit to help people understand it better. Servers are allowed to keep donations as long as they do not affect gameplay ALlowed donation ideas: -Ranks -Cuddly Pets -PLugin Related perks Disallowed: -Potions -Anything that is already available to players. For example, let's say a server does not allow you to have swords and they make you donate to have a sword. That would be illegal Nothing bad is going to happen, but we might need to get rid of the mob spawner donations for skyblock, and maybe, the donation kits for kitpvp.
