So I have been told by a Head Mod that if a player was caught using a alternative account (a alt basically) to evade a ban on another account, the alt is also banned for the remaining time of the original offense, but that is it for their 'punishment'. I believe that, that is not fair for the people of the server. When a player is banned they are banned for good reason. When a offender is banned it helps improves the overall game play for other users of the game mode and it also help protect the well being and happiness of the other players. Although when a player uses a alt to bypass their ban, they are skipping their punishment and they have the possibility to cause chaos once again on the server. By skipping their punishment I believe that the offender is not getting the full message of their punishment. Their punishment being, you're not allowed to play on this server/gamemode for something bad you have done. I believe that the offender being able to get more play time. by using an alt, even though they shouldn't be able to, feel like they are able to get away with it knowing that they are not being punished additionally for this offense. That is why I believe it is fair when someone is caught for Ban Evasion, that alt account AND main account is banned not only with the remaining amount of time left of their original reason for being banned, but it should be increased, not only for the amount of time that was spent avoiding the ban but also an additional amount of time should be added for this offense, a simple 3-7 day added to the remaining time. So for example if a main account was banned for 7 days for scamming for instant. Then some time has passed and there are 6 days remaining in the ban. Then the offender got on an alt and was able to play for 2 days making it 4 days of ban left for main account. Offender is caught and then both alt AND main account are banned for the remaining time (which is 4) + the time they were able to play (which is 2) + addition time for ban evasion (which would be 3 for example) = 9 day ban for both main and alt. Edit #1: Clarification
Yes I know what the current rules are, this is why I made this suggestion. Rules can change and I believe this is a good reason why it should be changed.
Well, I think this is a bit ridiculous. A person getting banned for rule-breaking is already good enough a punishment. If you suggest to extend an evasion ban, why not extend the main ban as well? This is just unnecessary 'rubbing salt to the wound'.
Alts being banned for the remaining time of the main account's ban makes sense to me. If the ban time on my alt was longer than the remaining ban time on my main, it wouldn't bother me because it isn't my main account. If anything, the ban time on the main should be increased, because that's what player's care about.
Support, support, complete support. If you've been banned and some how are managed to be banned while using an alt, you really do deserve it. It'd make it so players will pay more attention to using their main account and force them to care more about being banned.
oh guess i should make it more clear, I wanted both main and alt account ban to be increased. Did i make it clear or did i confuse you more?
Neutral, I believe that this could be a valid option to deal with ban evading, but I don't think it is the best solution. I think banning ips and stopping VPN's would be a better solution to prevent ban evading in the first place, because as a normal player, reporting someone with enough evidence for ban evading is extremely difficult, and preventing the ban evading to begin with would make everyone's life easier.
Okay so to my understanding, this is quiet a good suggestion but the only flaw I see is how would it be determined of how long they played on the alt, other than that I like the idea. -xItsToxic
I like this idea ALOT, I think the ban time should be increased by a set amount regardless of what ban is being evaded, the exception being perm bans of course.
Support No matter how you slice it, using an alt to evade a ban is a rule break. Currently you are not punished for breaking a rule, the punishment merely moves to another character also. By increasing the ban duration, you are now punishing the person for trying to ban evade. I would think that trying to ban evade (and how tough sometimes it can be to track) is a willful act. Adding something like 3d to the offence I would think is a decent start with repeat offenders seeing that number move upwards of course.
well if there is no certain way to check when the user got on the alt to evade the ban then I guess kinsey kinda answered it for me :P just have it as a set amount of time that is added on the remaing ban
Nah it's clear now that you've edited it. I like the idea more now that the main is included as well. Support.
Neutral. The best way to stop ban evading would be to ban the IP - but the only down side is for other people that may use that IP (such as siblings).
