Yeah, I guess. Maybe also alert the thread OP (who created their thread second) that there is already another thread on the same topic as well, if someone hadn't already.
Hm. It's kind of hard to post anything but a generic message in introductions, but I reckon it's okay unless you go overboard. I watch the Introductions section, so usually I just comment when they post the thread.
What I consider post farming in my own mind Spamming threads Not deleting bumps Saying "thank you" and "you're welcome" on suggestions Spamming no support/support/neutral on many applications or suggestions without explanation Of course, that's not what the rules say post farming is. Post farming that's punishable is posting noncontributive posts on many threads within a short period of time.
A good example of post farming is seen within the moderator applications section. I've seen many individuals go into there and literally just write "support" or "no support" then move onto the next application. Some manage to get 10-20 messages in just a couple of minutes. Which just shouldn't be.
You don't gain anything from doing that so I wouldn't class it as post farming as it does not higher the total message count.
Basically, where it's obvious you are posting solemnly to increase your post count. Some examples have been stated, such as replying "Support" or "No support" repetitively within minutes without any reasons behind the post. Or, just replying to the help forum "email [email protected]" when it's obviously already been said. Also, spamming the introduction forum with the same "Welcome" message.
It is defined by excessive posting, characterised by short and pointless responses which are placed in sections which have post count. Pointless, for example, is saying to someone "good luck on getting your rank back" when they have a help thread on a lost rank. Another example is an off-topic response such as saying "this thread is pointless" to reply to this thread. But not only are these things considered as post farming, it can also be the amount of posts you make in a thread, such as if you post 3 posts in a row that could have easily been one message, and even just replying to everyone that have posted on your mod application, for example. Even creating threads that could be as simple as a private message (like calling out players or mods, discussing bans etc), useless and non detailed suggestions and the common no support/support/neutral with no explanation. Essentially if your aim is to boost your post count without putting effort and thought into the responses, spamming the sections and not contributing to threads then its considered post farming. Now obviously I say this from a moderators perspective. But the thing to remember also is context is quite important. Sometimes people are posting a lot but are posting relevant things. Others may be new and not know how to edit their own posts. Its important to think about the situation and then it can be concluded if it really was post farming or just a misunderstanding.
Here's what I classify: Repeating what has already been said; mainly on help threads: Ex: Email [email protected] when 3 other people have previously said it.. Commenting support, no support, etc.. with a "good luck" and not giving anything useful Replying to every possible thread you can Edit- Commenting "Wrong section @blah blah" Saying, "Don't triple post" Use the report feature for both, it's useful The thing that gets to me the most, if you've been on the forums for less than a year and have over 5,000 messages, something is seriously wrong. 5,000 messages took most everyone over a year.
I see post farming when you: • State the same message on every thread. • Replying to each message on a thread. • Saying something back when someones says Thanks. • Stating something that stated multiple times.
I think that post farming means that you send a message that already have been post before. (Sorry if this is wrong)
Posting useless things in forums that count as messages just to get messages. "Email [email protected]" every one knows that now. Lots of them are trying to help, but I'm sure there's a couple who do it for messages. This is also why I have a suggestion for grave digging moderator applications. They go to apps from years ago and write on them just for messages.
I mean when Someone goes on to The older pages and just says No Support, on page 5 to everyone because their not going for mod anymore.
I agree with all of those except the thank you part, are you sure thanking someone for welcoming them is post farming, this is on the proviso it is all done on one post, like multiple people are thanked on one post. You seem to have a similar opinion as xtreme, it's a mix of both but content is very important, I do agree, spamming support, neutral, no support is post farming, I think adding 'reasons stated above' is also post farming and in fact if those words make it onto a post then it is post farming Imo not to mention it's infuriating. I already said that. So for you it's if the person is posting something that is actually going to benefit the thread and is not just generic also of course the plain no support support neutral argument with 1 word responses. Your point about replying to everyone on a thread, would this be on different posts or on the same posts so like would you class what I'm doing now as post farming or do you mean if I individually posted a response to each person on a separate post. I think it's pretty conclusive, one word support, no support and neutral is in the majority of people's opinions post farming, the question is, what about on suggestions, I'm going to put this question somewhere else as well so it is more obvious for people and I also agree with the cotext bit as well to some extent, if a new user doesn't know how to edit then it is still post farming but it is unintentional and I think this is what makes it sort of OK as long as they are educated afterwards and the error is rectified. I'm pretty sure there are under 10 people with over 5k posts and I can list most of them and they are all mods or ex mods so I don't actually know of anyone who has post farmed to 5k without moderating and you know yourself moderating due to bans puts your posts up a lot depending on how active you are. I myself am a culprit of something you said there with the please don't triple post as I usually tag a moderator although sometimes report it instead. Also I make you right on the posting repetitive content, if someone already said that then why are you saying it again? It's like playing hangman and 5 people guessing the same letter one after the other. Again with replying to each message on a thread, do you mean like what I have done or individual posts? Otherwise your view is very similar to others. I don't think you are wrong and you can't exactly be wrong, I asked for your opinion, and yes I agree with your definition but I think there are other aspect's to post farming as well. The grave digging thing I really agree with myself, if someone is posting on a thread or mod application that had become inactive it is purely for their own benefit. Wait so what if someone posted a paragraph every minute 20 times or so? Are you sure there are no other aspects to it? Yeh I agree as well, that's kinda like necroposting, I think that there should be no exception to the necropostibg posting rule and that threads should be auto archived to prevent this from happening or at least reduce it. So anot her question to you all, it is clear in mod apps using support neutral no support is basically post farming, what are your opinions when it comes to suggestions because I don't know how you could give a reason.
Well i feel like Post farming on their is if someone goes to old threads that obviously weren't accepted and starts righting Support or NoSupport on all these like page 7 .
Well, I understand how the majority of them are mods/ex-mods. But, some of them didn't end their staff time as with 5k+ posts. I've seen a few certain people spam their way up to 5k, and even beyond. This shouldn't even be an issue, if people used common sense. Like, This gives me aids in seconds. Why do you feel the need to say "you're welcome"?? What does that do??!!?
