It wouldn't be to check the files. It would be to see if they were running a client at that exact time.
Its called ghost clients, people hide clients with forge files ex: Amour Status. It wouldn't be just check their versions and see if they're running some random client
Support, there is a screensharing site! You can go into a ts channel (The new support channels) and go on join.me! Talk through ts share through the website! The mods will need to learn how to ss people first though, hidden clients
To clarify everyone asking how you "screen share in minecraft", there is no such thing. In order to screenshare you'd need to get TeamSpeak, join the channel (which you would have to make) and contact a mod. The mod would then be able to see your desktop and current monitor, then they'd usually ask you to open up your clients folder and %appdata% to see if you have anything sketchy installed. And like others have said, with screensharing comes the addition of /freeze a plug in that would freeze a player giving them the TS address telling them to join. Only problem with this is that there are SO MANY false bans on MV that mods probably wouldn't be able to notice if a folder was changed recently. I 100% support this idea, but the mods need to know how to THOROUGHLY inspect a person's files AND RECOGNIZE what an active client looks like ingame to prevent false bans.
This will be abuse able to gathering mods and players ip addresses, there is a direct link and you can see where you are receiving data from
I'm pretty sure this isn't even possible. Even if it was, if someone asks a mod to ss someone and say they are hacking but aren't, it would kind of be a waste of time because of false reports and it also ruins your privacy, knowing mods have this. (If there is a ss)
Yes you can... You can get anyone's internet protocol as long as you are reciving / sending information though out the Internet, you can even get people's up though sending a simple message over Facebook, TS, Twitter, Skype you name it.
