Well, I do have the best router/internet for my area, but I know there has to be a way to improve.

I've had this router all my life.

Turn your modem off and on. Sometimes a simple reset can significantly increase your Internet speed. You can also turn your router on and off to see if that's helpful. Just make sure that you know your login information in case your computer requires you to enter it after the reset.

router has nothing to do with speed

my speed is the exact same as yours.
Your best option is to upgrade your plan with your service provider
or get a better service provider :)

Well we had an old 3G router( you probably don't Know what that is) then we upgraded to 4G and was up to 45 Mb/s

      i know what it is,
but your situation can be different, as not everyone has a perfect router

But you can say even 3g gives more than 6 mbs

I myself get the same amount of speed, but my router clearly shows that it can support over 50 mb/s

And i know it's slow since my internet plan is ADSL2+ in Australia, which runs at average of 8 - 9 mbs

so for me upgrading to 3g or 4g router is not really gonna help.

The only way i can be fully sure is by contacting my internet service provider, and asking them what action i should take next

Try to do the following instructions
      1.Get a download accelerator
2.Turn off all unused apps while downloading
3.Don't upload information while you're downloading
      4.Update your network device driver
5.clear your temporary download history files.
6.Use latest version of any browser
When i had the same problem,i followed the same ways.I am sure,it's very useful to increase your, both upload and download speed. Then you can check your new internet speed using ScanmySpeed.com

my suggestion : buy your own router, dont use the router that gives your whole house internet, just buy one only for your pc, so that u have 100% use and not only get about 35% out of it, my speed (router spreaded over the house, normally i should get 100megabits/second) http://www.speedtest.net/result/3520479723.png
