Hello, I would like to express myself and discuss about how players treats moderators and why. First of all, I will talk based on MY experience moderating here. I applied to be a moderator because I like to help this server to be a better place, and to ban hackers like anyone would without having to wait for someone to handle a report. In this past 3-4 months I've been moderating I've passed through a lot. People insulting me because I didnt go the way they wanted, even if they were wrong, people trying to demote me for ridículos reasons, people trying to hack my account, people harassing me even looking for me on my irl social networks, etc. And all this just because I'm a moderator, you need to be very carefull and know about Internet protection before you apply or you will get rekt, I've seen too many mods resigning for any of this matters and I want to know why!!?!?. What is so bad about being a moderator here that everybody targets you? You may say that the current team is not good but let me tell you something, it is. We are strong and we are united. Second, people who thinks that we are some kind of omnipotent god that knows and see everything. We are regular players like you, the best way you can help us is reporting players not mocking us and say " why are you not on "random server" theres a lot of hackers there", "dude do your job", " you are useless", "you are blind", and the list can go on and on. This is not a job, we are players who volunteer and sacrifice some of our time to help this place, we are not getting payed, and even if we do people shouldn't be treating people like that. Third. After all, moderating here have been a really good journey, I have learn many stuff about life and I will be always greatful. Please comment your thoughts, don't go off topic or beyond a regular convo. One thing is constructive critisism and other is going beyond limits.
Agreed. People treat Moderators as a piece of garbage because they ban their friends, that is incredibly stupid because Moderators just do there work as good as possible.
When I moderated the server it was a really fun experience, I did get hate but I was already used to it. I really don't understand why moderators are resigning because of hate, I understand that the hate can get really severe and such but it's also what you signed up for. If you apply for moderator purely thinking of helping the server then you're going to feel like it's a mistake when you do get into the position, people constantly put you down telling you that you're bad at your job. That's why moderators need to enjoy the game before applying, it's also the reason why moderators become in-active. One of the good things that the two server rule brought was that a lot of the moderators were extremely active since it was the game-mode they enjoyed most. I, for example, was extremely active, usually on for about 8 hours a day on Factions purely because I enjoyed it. Also, people who try to hack, DDoS and harass moderators over social media are beyond pathetic. Moderators deserve a lot of respect, it is a hard job which they don't get paid for, the least they can do is get paid in respect. This is my opinion on the subject.
I'll be serious about this. I had a lot of hate when I was moderator, so I guess it's nice you made this thread. I should've resigned because of all the hate I got, because eventually it got to my head, and I screwed up and got demoted. I can understand why some mods are resigning because of the hate, moderators are just like us, they're normal people and they have feelings.
It's perfectly understandable that they get to a certain point in which they realise that it's not worth it anymore. It's a game. For starters you should be trying to enjoy your time playing, while moderating. You shouldn't ever feel the need to leave the team, purely based from being hated on. It's part of what you signed up for. It's very easy to just ignore people hating on you, or quite simply leave. Take a few minutes, hours or whatever break from the game. Chill out a bit. Do something that you enjoy doing to forget about the people. Then, come back and moderate to your best. Prove to yourself that you don't deserve the hate given. While I was moderating here, I wouldn't say I personally got targeted and hated on. I just got the general message "You're a bad mod, do your job" - Though, I always was doing my job, to the best standard in which I possibly could. It's just that I wasn't able to be at more places at once. Trying to catch a hacker, and check the chat at the same time isn't as easy as one would think. Especially with a lot of the spam you can receive.
Some of the mods here can't even tell hacks, this server is corrupted of mods who are inactive, useless at telling hacks, abusive etc my list can go on too. You didn't even add the fact why mods abused in the past or why they did, this server has many corrupted mods now, mods who are scared of getting hacked so they do what the hackers say. Why do people rage at the mods for real? The mods play the gamemodes people hack on, some of them watch people hack and do nothing, it's really stupid in my opinion, this server has been corrupted for some time, I think it needs a lot of help.
Yes, I agree with some of your points. A lot of the moderators aren't too good at spotting hacks but that doesn't make them bad moderators. None of the moderators are corrupt, you're over exaggerating although I do agree that the team needs an overhaul with activity. If you really think a moderator is being abusive then you can report them, there's no need to insult them, all that will do is stress them out even more, leading to being inactive.
I think that I focused in the bad things about being a moderator. As I briefly said in my 3rd point, my time moderating here have been a really good journey. I am having fun while moderating, yes, my way of playing on mineverse had to change but I don't regret any decision. In the end I take every bad comment as constructive criticism and I try to improve about it, the good comments about being a moderator are overwhelming and I appreciate them but I'm not here for the compliments, that's why I talked about the dark side only. I didn't wanted to focus on the hate we receive but on the things we have to deal like getting our accounts hacked or compromised. Most of the times we deny reports because the evidence is just insufficient, yes you know he hacks because you were there and saw more things than the recording but sometimes that is not enough, you can always request to another moderator or a head mod if you feel like the report was handled incorrectly. I can assure you that any abuse is strongly punished by the head mods. As elrak said. You can always report a staff if you feel like they are violating any rule.
People on MV are extremely rude to mods just because they either false ban, ban their friends or they just have a bad attitude. You moderators need to understand this is a block game! Don't let the haters get to you! You're helping out the server and what are they doing? Making it more toxic? Lol who cares about the haters they are just jealous you got the position and they didn't.
And this is exactly what he is talking about. None of us are perfect, we don't claim to be. And here's a life spoiler alert, NO ONE IS! We all make mistakes. Some mistakes are bigger than others. There are so many different hacks out there. Some are more blatant than others. We come into this job ready to help this server. Some of the moderating team may have more experience spotting hacks than others. Does that make them a bad mod? Of course not, we all do our best. We don't sit here and overlook stuff just because. A lot of factors play in our decisions. On a lot of the tougher calls, we consult with one another. Sometimes we agree and sometimes we disagree, but ultimately whoever is doing the report is the one that makes the decision. Even if a report is denied for lack of evidence, the odds are great that the player will get caught soon enough. Do we make bad calls sometimes? Absolutely! Every one of us has. We do the best we can with the evidence that we have been given. Why would you bring up the mod's that have abused? They have absolutely nothing to do with the rest of us. They made their decision to abuse their powers and were punished accordingly. Why judge us as a whole? I'm quite certain that most people would agree that judging a group as a whole because of the radical actions & behaviors by a few is not fair at all. The term that comes to mind would be prejudice: refers to a positive or negative evaluation of another person based on their perceived group membership. I really wish you understood just how bad the getting hacked and DDOS'd issue really is. This is something our entire team faces all day every day. Have you ever had your account hacked? Have you ever been truly DDOS'd? Held offline for days, sometimes even weeks at the time? Its absolutely pathetic that we have to worry about this, but the fact of the matter is, yes we do have to worry about it. We are here helping the server and playing a block game for crying out loud. Like others have mentioned, please report anyone that you have evidence of abusing. By withholding the evidence, you aren't doing the server any favors. With all this being said, I'm getting of my soapbox now because I could type on this subject all day long and the outcome will be the same.
Trust me, moderators can tell hacks, if they are obvious. If you see somebody hacking, and a moderator who is on that gamemode right then, please don't spam him. Moderating is stressful, based on my experience. Please don't judge them if you don't know how it is being a Mod. You get hate, you are extremely put under pressure. They are targets. They might being DDoS'd. Have you ever been DDoS'd? If not, please don't even state this fact. Moderators can't ban people without evidence. Meaning, they have to record the hacker, upload the video and then they can ban. How would you suggest helping on the server? So basically my conclusion about your post is that you have no proper experience. You haven't been mod on a this big server, you don't know what it's consequences are. Please don't state facts you only know a half of. It's a huge pressure. You need actually a lot of determination not to give up, is you get too much hate.
I know it's already been stated by Dyna, but usually the mods that are better at spotting hacks enjoy pvping. They've experienced countless different PvP hacks, and experience them daily. It makes it easier to spot as you see it a lot. Not everyone enjoys PvPing though, so they may not be as good at seeing these things as it's not something they encounter on a regular daily basis. Just because they prefer to play the game differently from others doesn't make them a bad moderator. If one of us are unsure about a report, we ask for opinions. We don't just go off on our own and deny a report that we're unsure of. Usually there's 2 or 3 different opinions involved in the denial of a report unless it's clearly not an offense. So if you guys attempt to target one mod for closing a report, know that it most likely wasn't just them. They don't deserve hate for doing their job. Instead of bashing on a moderator for closing your reports, maybe start a conversation with them and explain where you think the hacks are, what hacks you think they are, etc. You guys always result to attacking the moderators. Would you enjoy going in-game for less than 10 minutes and already have people going "Do your job" "You're a bad mod", and much more insults that I wouldn't want to type here. I don't think you would. You don't know how stressful it is to go through that, and try to do your job at the same time. We take time out of our lives so that you guys can enjoy playing this game.
Well I agree with you, but sadly I'm doubtful things will ever change, no matter how much awareness is spread. Unless there is a tougher rule set on mod disrespect and a better chat filter to prevent such rude messages, nothing will ever change. The server is designed for a kid demographic. Sadly, the younger players tend to be immature, and there is no real fix for it. You just have to ignore it, its part of what you sign up for. I know what its like to be a mod and get shat on by players for doing my job. I know its horrible, but I just ignored it. Those who try to put you down (ppl like melol) should be seen as insignificant to you guys. Yall do a great job and you shouldn't listen to the minority of h8rz. Anyways yeah. Rant. Its lit. I would reccomend a new filter to remove all rude and discouraging phrases aimed towards everyone. There isn't a reason people should call other kids retards in a childs video game. Also, new disrespect rules are well overdue. Insted of 30 min mutes that probably wear off while the player is offline, thus making them ineffective, put in place longer mutes, abd mutes that dont wear off whilst a player is offline. Multiple offenders should recieve temp bans for a day. The solution is up to you guys. You need to stand up for yourselves and talk to cypriot or a head mod and ask for better rules. Making threads about stuff like this sadly doesn't get anyone anything they want.
I thought you made this to resign or something. But thanks for the clarity on how hard a moderator life is!
I've been hacked 4 times, DDoS'd over a hundred. And the staff team are scared of it? In my opinion it's pathetic the simplest way is get a VPN and don't Skype anyone who has the possibility to wireshark you etc, it's simple enough for th mods to know who DDoS's I'll even name some: Dillon, Kaleb, Venom(V3N0M) and the list just carries on, this server is toxicated with people who DDoS to win etc or they just threaten people for there mc accounts, a past few mods was even PAID by some people like $10-20 PayPal to abuse unnoticed at one time, the server needs active mods to do ban appeals and handle even more reports, I've seen mods abuse like hell, I even got abused once for total stupid stuff on Op PvP, I got muted for 3 hours for saying to someone "f***ing ez" about 2 months ago, I'm disgusted how inactive mods are to read ban appeals, before it was so easy for mods to view a ban appeal back in early December 2014, now? No
