Basically, on Nanurz's thread on rules and punishments: Chat Offenses: Try your best to maintain a high standard when playing MV. There are many young users on the server who should not be exposed to some things said in chat. Some chat offenses include but are not limited to spam, flaming, racism, swearing, and filter bypassing. In-game: The first offense for such actions will be a 20 minute - 2 hour mute. Second offenses can reach a 1 day mute - 1 day ban. However, based on severity, it could go up to higher punishments based on staff judgement. (Porn, etc) However, when I report a player for, say, swearing, spamming, racism, etc., Mods always give out a warning. If you refer to the red coloured words above, it says that the first offence will be a 20 minute to 2 hour mute. This does not correlate to the actual punishment given. I would like to find out what's going on and which "punishment rule" I should follow. @SSMH
Agreed. I know that maybe a little swear word like the f word (just once) should not get a 2 hour mute, but I just hope that a Mod would clarify this.
In the past when I have run the 'player has been warned' multi-mod, I count muting as a warning. Are you actually witnessing the punishments being handed out?
Do look at some of my reports (Archive) [Swearing and other chat offences] and you'd be able to see that the players are warned, not muted. If they are muted they would have said [Muted].
During my short time as a moderator, I muted the player the correct amount of time even if they were offline, and mailed them why I muted them if they were to come on to find out they were muted, and in the reports I would just say they have been warned because there wasn't a mute button in the mod forum commands, and a mute is technically a warning Of course the rules are different now, but I'm just felt like I should've told you how it was like back then.
The problem is the plugin, you can't mute people who are offline and if you expect a Mod to sit on to said player appears again, you're crazy. Mailing is really all we can do :(
I'm sorry if I'm "crazy". -.- I didn't know that, and I just wanted clarification. Thank you for that though. If muting doesn't work, then don't even try to put it in the rules. It just confuses some people. Would really appreciate it if you didn't call me crazy. I just didn't get it at the start.
I learned to mute when warning someone, so I did I was also told that if they were offline, temp-ban them for the duration of the mute
'You' was a general whoever is reading this, if you don't think a Mod should wait hours on end for someone then that line doesn't even apply to you! I'm sure you're not crazy
:P Yeah. Ok. Well of course that's wasting time, and is very unrealistic. Maybe a message and a tempban would be good? I know you won't be able to log on, but it may be a possible way?
The players don't have to follow this? This is how the moderators do their punishments. They mute as a warning, or even temp ban. There is a multi-mod that allows them to run it. There is no "mute multi-mod", warning multi-mod is just easier. All-in-all, a warning is a mute or temp-ban, you shouldn't have to worry about which to follow. The warnings will eventually lead to a temp-ban if there are enough on the player(s)
