A little clarity please on the new banning policy. Why is it that a member who makes a conscious decision to report themselves, and asks for a predetermined ban time is allowed to be banned for over a month for indirectly saying "kys" in chat as an outburst, with no direction pointed towards anyone? http://www.mineverse.com/threads/please-ban-me-banned.72853/ Yet I report a player being malicious purposefully by using a hacked client, and he only receives a 7 day ban now because of an update from Noobcrew? http://www.mineverse.com/threads/infection-saumik_anik-hacking-tempbanned-alma.73039/ Seems to me the system is completely arbitrary now. And on top of that requested bans aren't even supposed to be allowed if I remember correctly.
I don't know why the player wasn't banned for longer (the hacker) seeing as Infection is a PvP Gamemode. As for the player, I wouldn't have banned him/her personally, but other mods might have thought it was bad enough to be banned for.
On a non PvP Server hackers are taken a little more lightly. However, seeing as Infection is a PvP server, it should have been 31d.
I know it wasn't your decision. However, you said that non pvp server hackers should be taken more lightly. I want to know why they should be taken less seriously?
I agree with that. I see the reasoning though, hacking with pvp affects other players and makes the game un fair. While hacking on non-pvp gamemodes doesn't affect anyone else. I don't think 7 days is long enough for hacking in any case, though. Either way, it's still hacking.
It does have an affect on others. Obviously if you're hacking you can do something regular players cannot.
I assume Crew's reasoning is that hackers aren't as big of a problem on non-pvp servers as they are on PvP servers.
Yeah, you're right. PVP hacks I believe are considered more unfair than any other hack though. While on a pvp centered game mode, with hacks you automatically win. But if you're on survival and you use an "auto fishing" hack, it's not like you're automatically more op than another player. Despite that, I agree with Jhow: Becoming more easy on hackers is only going to increase them.
What about factions though that's got pvp and its highly likely if someone's going to hack they're going to x-ray too.
I personally think hackers should be banned for 31 days on all servers. But I understand Noob's reasoning on this for making it only on pvp based servers.
If you admit to have done something wrong and literally ask to be banned they shouldn't be banned for over a month. As for the hacker he should've been punished more severely.
I think the old system should be brought back. This is partially why I resigned. Ban any hacking offender perm(/ban) with chance to appeal, with accept ion only for valid reasons and above a month of being banned. Chat offences should result in a 7 day ban for first time offenders MAX(depending on severity), then increase as the person offends again. I don't know why the system has resorted to complete and utter stupidity, and it's a shame that it's not easy to get it changed. I completely agree with you Muse.
I think a system where perm bans, with appeals would be a much better system. For instance, say I scammed someone, and I knew they were recording. I wouldn't mind waiting out 31 days for my unban and to then have all the money and/or items. Hackers, too. They never stop hacking anyway. Also, I've seen a few people in-game mention they've been banned more than 3 times? I'm quite sure the third ban, even with the new system is a perm ban, so...what's actually happening here?
I remember when it was first implemented. It was sprung onto us mods, and wasn't even thought out. Out ability to /ban was removed everywhere, meaning we couldn't even ban advertisers, and we were told that we had to goto head mods to have someone /ban'ed. I thought that was insane, lol.
It's still the same. Mods only have the right to /ban users in the lobby, which is mainly for "spamvertisers". I personally think that all rule breakers should have a permanent ban, but be allowed to appeal as soon as possible. I don't know if it'd be better to straight up ban them in lobby, or ban them per game-mode. As, most rule-breakers will just continue onto another game-mode. This should be taken into more discussion though. Specifically between the head-mods and Cyp.
