After playing mineverse for over a year (Mostly opfactions) I have noticed some rules that have increased and some rules that I just don't agree with. However the death threat rule is one that I think is abused. I do agree it is wrong to tell people to "kill themselves" and things like that but there is also times (Even when its still wrong) that friends say it to each other as a joke. I think that if you, for example, say "Kys [name]" the person you were talking to should be the only one allowed to ban you. I have experienced my friends get banned many times because of ban thirsty people waiting for a little slip up. Most recently @vizardanon was messing around with me and told me to "Kys". Vizard, being one of my bestfriends, was clearly joking but a person who hated him ate it right up and got him banned. After saying all this, I hope you take my thought into consideration and thank you for reading.
I think what you need to remember is staff cannot tell sometimes who are mates and who is joking. To protect users we ban people for saying so. If you really want to say it, use private message and not in public.
Just do what I do, say kill yourself but then right after say 'in minecraft'. It's quick, easy and not bannable. :D
Yeah my friend got banned becasue some people were trash talking him. He told one of them to "stfu before I kill you all" and got banned liek wtfffff modz.
Like it's a factions server who doesn't tell people they are going to kill someone after they have been saying to them, like seriously, you can tell it's not an actual threat to somebody's wellbeing.
Telling someone to kys, joking or not, is nothing to joke about. Not everyone can tell the difference between joke and it being for real. There are a lot of people in the world who are not mentally stable and something like that seemingly joke could push them over the edge. You never know if someone is sitting behind the computer who is a self-harming type person and it could literally send them over the edge and make them go too far. Until you know someone who has issues like this, you would never be able to fully understand how something that is a joke to you, could effect them. Myself and several other mods are working to get this rule tightened down even more to where this whole "in minecraft" crap will be bannable as well. This is not something to joke about and needs to be taken seriously. Find another way to trash talk, because this way will never be ok.
I agree, I'll see reports like this often too. Support. If someone offends YOU and tells YOU to "kill yourself", it should be your business to report it. Not someone else's.
This is a bit different to me. A pvp heavy game mode, there is bound to be some "Im gonna kill you" Im going to blow you off the map" and I agree that is ok, to an extent. But if this rule were to be less strict, it would be all over the place. We, as mods, have to draw the line somewhere.
He got banned for saying "stfu or I'll kill you all" while they were trash talking him. That is quite obivous that it isn't an actual threat to a persons wellbeing is it not?
That is something else that we have been discussing. But for right now, we have to honor the threat and keep with how the rules are written. Which is why it is very important for reports to include full screenshots, it allows us to gauge the situation that was going on in chat at the time. I have to say though, that quote is pretty strong and I likely would have banned as well. If someone gets that angry at the trash talking that is going on, that is when its time to push away from the keyboard and shut it down until you can calm down. I know that's easier said than done in the heat of the moment, but if you allow your mouth to run amok, you end up in trouble.
I've even seen some cases where people have gotten banned for saying a "death threat" when it could have easily been meant in minecraft. for example: "ima kill you" this player could easily be referring to killing in minecraft. I seriously think this rule is just too vague and too general to properly enforce.
The whole reason of this thread is not to get the rule taken down. But to just make it so the person who is being told to kill themselves is the one to report. I dont feel like i need a babysitter in real life.. so why do i want one on here?
And im not at all talking people down. I do agree that telling people to kill themselves is wrong and thats why i have never done it. Its just simply the annoyance of people getting banned by uninvolved people
So eventually you're telling me if some kid on infection asks how do I die and someone tells them to /suicide they get banned now? wtf???
You can't tell whether someone is serious or not. Text doesn't say everything, you know. IRL their tone or body language could change, giving you the hint that they were serious or just kidding around. But in Minecraft you can't do that, because it's just chat. By the way, what if the person didn't have a forums account and couldn't report? What kind of rule would that be?
What about his street Fred he can't have people saying stuff and not say something banned. Also the people who reported him also made a fake screenshot by Photoshopping and got him banned two days ago. He got unbanned because it was fake then they reported him again. Plus the screenshot is 6 days old, I thought it had to be at most 3 days old.
