Honestly, most Minecraft communities nowadays permanently ban users who commit an act such as hacking. If not, then they at least give a short temporary ban. After so, they typically offer what is referred to as an "unban package." Basically, you pay this to get yourself unbanned from the server. Most server owners support the idea of having players directly pay them for their unban, and raising their own profits. In my own opinion, I've always hated this idea. - Mineverse shares a similar method, but it's rather discreet. Instead of directly offering a payment method for those who've been permanently banned, they'd prefer to hand out false "permanent bans" as a replacement. I say these bans are false, as typically they are not truly permanent. Instead of truly punishing those who break the rules, they'd prefer to unban those whom of which are favored. These favored players are typically ones who'll boost the owners profits in some way or another, as a result. As long as you maintain relatively good relations with those who run the server, you could practically discard of the thoughts of receiving a true permanent ban. I have seen this myself quite a few times, in fact. Players who are notorious for hacking, then are unbanned the next week typically. It's pointless, as you mentioned. ^ "SLIM?!" xD. Is that why people are constantly unbanned?? It's either you truly deal out the punishment you've written in your own rules, or you don't. If not, then at least change it so it says "permanent ban, except for those we like keeping around." And the fact that they ban people in specific lobbies, rather than server wide? Makes no sense whatsoever. I have never seen such a lackluster, and bias punishment system implemented into a gaming community before. Revamp the system, and revamp the rules. Both are flawed heavily.
I mean you could've just said "Support" but okay. I wasn't even talking about purchasing unbans, because Mineverse doesn't support that, nor do I support that idea.
I understand why, because you were permanently banned. Didn't turn out to be permanent, did it? Shame. Thanks for your input.
Um, yes and no. Here's why. If you have a banned player, then they have a chance to either become a player for better or for worse. A moderator can usually decipher between a player that has become better or worse through their appeal. However, there is the occasional player that lies in his or her appeal and serves a harsher punishment. A moderator can change his or her mind dependent upon the situation; they can't predict the future nor know what they will think in the future as well. If Moderator A sees Player B improve, Moderator A will probably unban Player B because people's attitudes can mature over time, and they can learn from their mistakes, too. That doesn't mean that moderators should permban for everything, but I think they should lean towards temporarily banning them first and then permanently banning them if they're a repeat offender or have broken a rule of utmost importance.
I like to explain WHY I support beforehand. I know this. Mineverse doesn't support paid unbans, like I said myself. But rather, they'd prefer to hand out false bans, likely due to personal bias and money gain. Ignoring everything else I said, the fact is that if you have good relations with those who operate Mineverse, you shouldn't expect a permanent ban anytime soon. Most Minecraft communities are corrupt like this. It's all the same, really.
I support for ban appeals to be more strict. Making it so they aren't ever accepted if the rule was actually broken, I don't support that. People make mistakes; if someone who is a very respectful and respected person does something that happens to get them perm banned... I think there should be at least a chance that they could get unbanned. I do believe it should be fairly hard to get unbanned, but not impossible.
lol i'd like to see if you still believe what you said in this thread if you get perm banned.... xddd
Yes, mistakes are committed. But that does NOT mean you aren't affected by them, does it? And like I said in a post before, there should be a system with the bans. The punishment durations could escalate if repeated. Well, you never stated that you supported. I was confused there.
I don't understand why you're commenting on my thread if you're not going to participate in the main topic. If you want to argue, I'm not the one to do that with. Please, unless you have something to say about the suggestion, leave the thread.
Support. - "Punishment: You will be quickly permanently banned with a slim appeal acceptance chance." Bravo!
Support it's also very unfair when someone gets unbanned for advertising and another tries to make an honest appeal but is told that "advertising is a permanent ban." These rules need to be followed.
There really wasn't a need for that, but oki. I agree with you, but I think what Grayson is trying to say is that people are being banned and then unbanned multiple times and are never given a permanent ban. People don't make the same "mistake" 5 times. Once they've made the same mistake twice I think we can understand that they are never going to learn. That's not nice. You don't get unbanned for advertising.
That's true. I don't think people in that type of situation should be unbanned. In certain cases though, I believe a player should have the opportunity to at least appeal.
