      Let's make a change.

This thread was created and written to help people understand what are the effects of cyber-bullying, and why it is so wrong in every way possible.

Please sit tight through the whole text.

      Cyberbullying

Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place on the internet. This includes devices and equipment such as cell phones, computers, and tablets as well as communication tools including social media sites, text messages, chat, websites like Mineverse and online games such as Minecraft.

Examples of cyberbullying include mean text messages, PM's or chat messages, rumors sent by email or posted on the forums or other social media, and embarrassing pictures, videos, websites, or fake profiles.

This might not seem like much.

      But wait, there is more.

      Effects of Cyberbullying

Young people, who are cyberbullied are more likely to:
      - Skip school
      - Experience in-person bullying
      - Be unwilling to attend school or any social activity
      - Receive poor grades
      - Have lower self-esteem
      - Have more health problems
      - Become bullies themselves
...or even in extreme, but possible situations commit suicide.

You see, cyber-bullying is a huge issue. Even in Mineverse

      How can we stop cyber-bullying?

Here's a few ways how YOU can help contribute at stopping cyber bullying FOR GOOD

Don’t respond. If someone bullies you, remember that your reaction is usually exactly what the bully wants. It gives him or her power over you. Who wants to empower a bully?

Don’t retaliate. Getting back at the bully turns you into one and reinforces the bully’s behavior.

Save the evidence. The only good news about digital bullying is that the harassing messages can usually be captured, saved, and shown to someone who can help. You need to do this even if it’s minor stuff, in case things escalate. If bullying happens inside the Mineverse network REPORT about the issue!

Talk to a trusted adult. You deserve backup. It’s always good to involve a parent but – if you can’t – a school counselor usually knows how to help. Sometimes both are needed. If you’re really nervous about saying something, see if there’s a way to report the incident anonymously at school.

Block the bully. If the harassment’s coming in the form of instant messages, texts, or profile comments, do yourself a favor: Use preferences or privacy tools to block the person. If it’s in chat, leave the server.

Be civil. Even if you don’t like someone, it’s a good idea to be decent and not sink to the other person’s level. Also, research shows that gossiping about and trash talking others increases your risk of being bullied. Treat people the way you want to be treated.

Don’t be a bully. How would you feel if someone harassed you? You know the old saying about walking a mile in someone’s shoes; even a few seconds of thinking about how another person might feel can put a big damper on aggression. That’s needed in this world.

Be a friend, not a bystander. Watching or forwarding mean messages empowers bullies and hurts victims even more. If you can, tell bullies to stop or let them know harassment makes people look stupid and mean. It’s time to let bullies know their behavior is unacceptable – cruel abuse of fellow human beings. If you can’t stop the bully, at least try to help the victim and report the behavior.

      *The Address*
Let's make a giant address of people who want to help. Please sign this thread as a reply. I will count in all signatures and let's see if we make a difference!

*Disclaimer: I did not write the text above. I have found it on other websites and wanted to share it to you all.

      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you can see, cyber-bullying is still a big problem. Some of you would say, "Just block the bully and ignore him." or "Just leave social media if it's hurting you so much." Some people can but for most, they stay because social media is everywhere, technology, is everywhere.

Lots of other people will say stuff like "Its just the internet gosh" but some people are effected differently. Some people can ignore it and others take things to heart. We all must remember each of us are going through different things in our life and some people may be easier to hurt then others.

Some people might think that a petition on 'a minecraft server' won't help a bit, but doing nothing is worse. We are all part of the internet, and it doesn't matter how, we can always change ourselves, act mature and be helpful to others when necessary, just to make that little difference, and to help that few people that need it. We are the internet, and it is up to us if we stand up for those who get cyberbullied or do nothing.

      Then:
      • Face to Face
      • Schoolyard
      • During the school day
      • Smaller audience
      Now:
      • Anonymous
      • At school AND at home
      • All day, everyday
      • Larger, possibly global audience
Of course we can't stop it completely, because we all make rude comments sometimes. Or we hurt people, even if we don't want to.
Maybe we can't stop it completly, but together we can make a difference. Besides that, it's always good to improve ourselves and all the little bits of positivity, encouragement, and motivation help. <3

I hope you all don't mind me putting this out there.
Just wanted to spread some awareness.

      Keep Smiling

You have the ability to join and leave Minecraft communities.
I would understand addressing this if someone was harassing someone via Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, etc), but none of us really know each other IRL, so it shouldn't affect us IRL.
You have control over your emotions, don't let them control you.

That's just my opinion of it.

      A couple points :

-This is true. However, it's not something you can just walk away from. You know it's there, you constantly worry about what is being posted of you and you dread checking your social networking websites. This can make you delete them all together. That did not solve the problem though. It only made them change it to real life gossip and bullying, since they knew I couldn't see them. Thing is, they want you to see. That's what bullies want; to see you suffer.

-Computers are everywhere, there is no getting away from them. Especially for students who depend on the use of computers for completing their studies. A computer is now an aspect of everyday life, and for some people it's something they use majority of the day. It's not like years ago when a bully just saw you at school, but once the final bell would ring you knew you were safe. If you're a kid and sitting in your room trying to recover from the trials of the day and you started to be assaults via the computer in a place that is supposed to be safe and on a device that is supposed to be for you to use and enjoy it can become traumatizing, you'd have no shelter.

-Cyber bullying is never the only form. Your home used to be your safe haven. You could play video games or read or browse the internet.
Now bullies can chase you past your door.

-Why should the kid have to turn off the computer? He's not the one misbehaving, why does he get to be bullied irl (if they are) and also banned from the internet at home as well. To me that would really suck, that way you're punishing the kid that's being bullied, not the bully.

-People now have grown up with social media their entire lives. It’s how they communicate with friends, it’s how they make their plans, and it’s often how they spend a lot of their time “hanging out”.
Now, imagine that everywhere you go in this world, everything you do, every time you try to go online, you’re harassed. You’re reminded of how ugly you are, how dumb you are, how completely inadequate you are in every way. It’s easy for us to say “just turn it off and do something else”, but many of them don’t have anything else. They’re alienated by the only world that matters to them.

Yes, you can leave the house but eventually, you have to come back.

      Yes, computers are everywhere.
But that doesn't mean you cannot use it the way you want it.
You have the choice to do what you want with a computer.
