Here's an example of a simple formula: If {[amount of ratings]/([amount of time in hours]*[ammount of total posts]}-[ratio threshold]>0 then it is rate abuse. Say the [ratio threshold]=0.1 (needs to be fixed to a number between 0 and 1) Now as an example, Say USER 1 likes 5 posts of USER 2 in a time span of 1 hour. And USER 2 posted 50 posts in that hour. By the current definition of rate abuse, USER 1 can be punished. Using the formula, (5/(1*50))-0.1=0 which means that USER 1 is just on the line, but is not rate abusing.
I don't really see how the amount of posts the abused owns is mean't to affect the punishment of rate abuse. We are only punishing by the amount of ratings given -- not the amount of posts rated. Actually we could as that number is the same.
Well if someone(USER 2) posts more, then the accused(USER 1) has an excuse; "USER 2 posted 50 posts and I agree (or like or whatever) with 3 of them", This doesnt sound like rate abuse as it's 3 out of 50
It doesn't really matter how many posts said person has because everyone still earns the same trophies for the same amount. For example let's put your rule into place. Someone likeable posts ten messages today, and received two likes from one person. Then someone comes along and no life's the forums and posts on every thread they feel they can and end up with 100 posts and they are also likeable, they would in theory receive 20 likes from one person if if were allowed, multiply 20 by the number of people who read all this players posts and boom this guy is earning trophies like no tomorrow. It's probably better to just keep a solid no more than three rates per hour rule.
Spoiler: Sys3 rules (1) if r > 2 = abuse r < 3 = not abuse if t > 24 = not abuse t < 24 = abuse (2) if r > 7 = abuse r < 8 = not abuse keys r = rating(s) t = hour(s) p = player work (1) use if rating occurred within 24 hours (1 day) i.e. abuse if 3 ratings are given under 24 hours i.e. not abuse if 3 ratings are given over 24 hours (2) use if ‘abuse’ persists over days i.e. abuse if > 7 ratings are given over more than 4 days i.e. not abuse if < 8 are given under 4 days limits all players have a limit of giving 7 ratings a week to the same player all players have a limit of giving 3 ratings a day to the same player all players have an infinite amount of ratings able to receive at any time these limits are not moral barriers but are dictated by a plugin time the timezone used to guide the system is the timezone www.mineverse.com is setup in examples (1) p1 rates p2’s posts 5 times under 24 hours p1 is rate abusing because 5 > 3 (2) p3 rates p4’s posts 7 times over 27 hours p3 is not rate abusing because 7 < 8 (2) p5 rates p6’s posts 5 times over 3 days p5 is not rate abusing because 5 < 8 I have not defined what would happen if someone evaded this. I'll work on something better later.
I really feel like this is being made 1957387474 times more complicated. When the whole reason I made this thread was to hopefully simplify and clarify what rate abuse is.
Rate-abuse verb The act of deliberately rating posts of other players usually in the form of spam to, most usually, bring damage to the victim. "He rate-abused me." adjective A manner of rating posts in form of spam to usually bring damage to the victim. "The ratings I received from him were rate-abusive." ??
1st, The threshold is CONSTANT, hat means a mod will set it then it stays that value forever. 2nd, the amount of posts and time is between the ratings concerned, eg. 1 like at 10:00 another at 10:15 and one at 11:00. Meaning the time is 1 hour (or just 1 for the formula). The amount of posts will be the number of posts USER 2 posts (the victim).
Well 1st, negative numbers are smaller than 0. Also this system should only be used when someone challenges the current system, as it's quite hard for some people. So in the 1st case, a moderator would not consider it rate-abuse so this is not needed.
No but i was just asking if this was in fact an offence, I mentioned my concerns to him privately earlier
