So yesterday one of our more popular/active players was tempbanned 24 hours for rate abuse.
There is some mega confusion as to what rate abuse really is and I agree this needs to be more clearly defined. Only problem is you can't define rate abuse clearly or name it as one quick thing. Rate abuse can be many different things which is exactly why there is such a gray area instead of being a black and white issue.

      So what is rate abuse?
As a rule of thumb staff view 3+ ratings to one person in a relatively short period of time either good or bad, as rate abuse. (The problem with this being the official rule is people will use this as a guide to get around rate abuse to help their friends achieve trophies or to abuse someone and not get banned by rating 2 an hour and so on.)

      But there is more:
      • Rating someone with the intention of gaining that person trophies is also abuse. If I were to rate someone 2 times because they said they needed 2 more likes for a trophy, that imo would be abuse of the rating system. (and I believe this is true for most of the staff)
      • Rating someone negatively without reason would also be abuse. (Bad spelling with no errors for example)
      • Rate farming is also a form of rate abuse. You can rate farm by posting statuses asking for likes. Posts like these are not allowed and will be deleted.
      • Rating specifically only one person repeatedly could also be seen as farming/abuse.
      • (to be added)
So how do we define it?
I would love to hear your opinions on ways to define rate abuse more clearly as well as any other information you would like to share in regards to rate abuse. This is a conversation long overdue.

May I ask why the first line is necessary, because I don't see the need for it being there.

Regarding the actual topic, I agree that 3+ ratings in a short period of time should be classified as abuse, but players that were previously banned for violating this rule should not be given a hard time about it (you and I both know who I'm talking about).

Also I'm not sure if I agree with the fact that liking one post to get someone a trophy is classified as abuse, as the player would eventually get the rating(s) any way.

Disliking someone's post just because you don't like them.

I wasn't trying to give anyone a bad time here, just stating that it's obvious if a active member is confused of the rules, we need to have a discussion. :/

Thank you for clarifying the rules, it's going to help. I agree that rate abuse shouldn't only be defined by a number, but what was trying to be achieved and what the reasons were behind the rate abuse. I guess the problem is, is that it's a very blurred line. Someone may have the same intentions in liking three posts by someone (ex. getting them a trophy), as someone does just by liking one post.

Thanks for clarifying this... I was confused. Basically, if it's obvious a player is doing it for abusive reasons (getting a friend trophies, getting someone dislikes, ect) then they will be punished?

The ratings/statuses will be removed and the person will receive a one day ban for their first offense. If they have abused previously the punishment increases. Eventually they will lose all ability to rate posts.

But I would love to hear ways we can clarify this more clearly.

Can we maybe wait for the player to be unbanned to let them remove the ratings they've given rather than having the other players' messages removed? If they don't cooperate then that's when the statuses should start being deleted (imo).

It is the only way to remove the "like" from xenforo on a profile status unfortunately.

Remember this is a thread clarifying what rate abuse currently is.

If you have any suggestions, disagree, or would like something added, let us know. We are trying to fill in all the blanks that have long since existed in the ratings system.

While I like that idea, the report stays open and the one abused or the one who was farming asking for likes still is able to keep the statuses active and possibly receiving more likes in the time waiting.

      Mhmm
Unfortunately there is no other way I have found that can change it.
If you find a xenforo adon that changes this please post it here. I would love to find another solution.

Stiff punishment for a first time offender.

I agree with most of this, I just want some clarification on some parts.
Say I wanted to like someone's status because I liked it, or thought it was funny. It just so happens, that the person needed one more like to get a trophy point. Would I be punished for this?
How would one tell if I were to rate someone's post dislike without a reason? Would mods just have to ask everyone why they disliked a post?

Thanks for making this thread, and for the most part, it's pretty clear what you should and shouldn't do as far as ratings go.
