Optifine Troubles

I wasn't sure where to post this, so I'll just go with off topic since its not directly MV related. Today I got optifine on my computer. I had it downloaded, installed, and ready to go in literally like 3 clicks. I go and try to download it and put it on my son's Toshiba Satellite (I say this because this particular computer has some known issues with MC) and no matter what I or my husband do, we cannot get it to open after we download it. We have searched the internet for any known issues and cannot find anything that has helped us. I'm hoping that maybe someone here might have an answer for us. It makes absolutely no sense as to why we cannot get it working. We have it downloaded but when we click the file to open it, it does nothing. We get the "working" symbol for a second but then nothing. We have uninstalled and reinstalled every program that it could possibly use to open the .jar file. No luck.

You need to download winrar and then open it.

If opening it won't work, you could always try using it with Forge. Just download & install forge for the version of Minecraft you want, get the Optifine version you want, and put the Optifine mod in the "mods" folder in the ".minecraft" folder just like any other mod. When you want to play with Optine, just select the game version that says "Forge {Game version and some random numbers}" You should be able to use Optifine now. If that doesn't work, then I don't know what will O_o
