So a bit back Cyp made a "Forum Mute" group in the admin panel as a way to punish members in the warnings system. If you check that box when warning a player it places the user in a temporary group with reduced permissions, but still allows them to view the forums. I love this idea and it has been useful when needing to infract a user who has been breaking rules. Using this method of making reduced permission groups possible within the warnings system could be used on a multitude of levels. There are a few number of users here who love to hand out negative ratings as well as some ratings that over time/abuse have been changed to a neutral. Ratings like: Bad Spelling Disagree Those ratings were negative ratings and still have a negative feeling attached when used against another user. (Adding those back to a negative would be another suggestion I have for a later date) I am suggesting a group be made within the warning system with the ability to rate posts removed. This would leave the member with all the regular permissions of a default member without the ability to rate posts. I am suggesting that rate abuse infractions would be handled in a "3 strikes" system. First time abuse of the ratings system = Verbal warning/Removal of ratings abused/spammed. Second time abuse of the rating system = 24h Forum mute/Removal of ratings abused/spammed. Third time abuse of the rating system = Removal of ratings permission/Removal of ratings abused/spammed. Now, in order for this to be executed we would need rate abuse clearly defined. That is where you guys come in. How would you define rate abuse? (Please be as clear as possible) What are your opinions on the removal of the ratings permission from users?
Rate abuse- 3 negatives an hour, 4 positives an hour. Removing perms- Sounds good @Bantz had this happen to him before, correct me if I'm wrong
Any 3-4+ ratings in the space of an hour is my opinion. (ABSOLUTELY ANY RATING. Even Neutral.) If it's deliberate and more than 5 ratings are given, a higher tier punishment can be given. Removing perms sounds awesome. 1st abuse: Verbal warning and ratings removed. 2nd: Higher tier infraction with a 24 hour ban and ratings removed. 3rd: Permanant ban. Ratings removed. Appealing is allowed but slim chance of acceptance. (Might seem harsh but we're trying to keep the forums at its best here.)
In my opinion, anything that isn't deserved or was done out of spite is rate abuse. Of course, for it to be considered rate abuse (in my opinion) it would have to be done on multiple occasions Disagree and bad spelling should not be negative, though I support all other suggestions.
I dislike the 3 negatives, 4 positives an hour. It's quite stupid imo. Someone could just do 2 dislikes, then 61 minutes later another 2 dislikes. But, if they are disrespect, rude, or deserve a dislike then it should remain as non-rate abuse. If someone is rate abusing for someone to just have a mass amount of negatives, that's stupid. When rate abuse is reported, I say moderators need to check the post to see if it actually needs to be removed, etc. Just my opinion. Support.
Basically says it all. The abuse of something (Ratings) will be held by opinion by the/a moderator. Use (ratings) to bad effect or for a bad purpose; misuse. - That basically states that for something to be classed as "abuse" then it, being the ratings system would/will have been misused. For the people that are saying that it's abuse if it's 3/4 negative ratings per hour, that is easily bypassed, and will be easily bypassed. For instance, giving someone 2 negative ratings 1 hour, then the next, giving them another 2. "Repeatedly" - If it is an occurring event that can be clearly seen or thought of by the user as abuse, let them report it. The moderator will handle, and if this "abuse" is repeated take action.
Rate abuse I believe isn't 3 negative and 4 positives in an hour, If it's an unwanted or unnecessary rating it's rate abuse, you are giving someone a rating for no reason, It shouldn't matter how many ratings and in how much time.
I would say that is someone spams someone else with ratings that's a problem. Like if someone have 10 alerts and they're all from one person rating them or if they rate absolutely everything they see that shouldn't be allowed. But if someone is really active on the forums and gives several ratings to several different people in an hour or so I don't think that should be an issue. In other words I think it should be decided case by case or by reports. But I'm fairly new here and still getting the feel of things, so that may change when I've been here longer.
I think rate abuse would be 2 negatives within a 10 minute gap, and 4 positives withing a 10 minute gap. Or if someone just does 3 positive every 10 minutes and 1 negative every 10 minute, ABOOOSE
You're allowed to give a heaps of ratings to alot of people, you're not allowed to give heaps of ratings to one person.
Regarding my picture, So if I've been here for 2 years and I have given out 200 dislikes in that time subjects me to removal? I feel like thats not fair to say that I should have my ability to give ratings removed when they cover a span of 2 years. Thats 730 days. With that math the most I give out a week is 1 dislike or so. So explain to me, why should I have my rates removed? Unless its illegal to give 1 rating+ a week, then sue me. Js.
I am stating that you are excessive in negative ratings. I have also been here 2 years. I've given 7.
I see where you are going with this and I understand, but you have been abusing. You and I both know that before the new rules came out you were rating negatives to Pony 2 every couple-few hours to stay out of the lines of "abuse". How is that ok? I'm not here to have a back and forth with you about it. I am stating my suggestion. You can support or not support it.
