Swear, or not?

Welcome to the thread. I am making this thread in contrast to a moderator's decision. No, not a ban, or ban appeal or anything to do with that. Just a couple "swear words". I was ingame playing infection, and one of the moderators (@Ares_Xena) decided to use the word "Dayum", I confronted him and and told me it wasn't a swear word, although I begged to differ. I told him that it was related to the word, "Damn", he decided, that anything not blocked by the pwn filter, you are able to use within game, unless it is excessively used, and as which I don't understand, that, if I it is not under pwn filter, I am allowed to say it as many times as I want, as long as it isn't spam (This is what I am getting out of it). I'd like conformation, on which is true, proof below.

 

children might be playing. I feel they don't need to learn those words.

@KingAlex Weh?.. Why'd you infract him for a minor swear-word? Sorry, but why didn't you simply delete his comment and move on? It's not anything major. Shouldn't be worth an infraction.

He had also disrespect players in the status. Also cyp warned him a few days a go for swearing and most of the words were censored.

 

May I ask how is damn a swear word
It is used to express anger and fustration. Saying damn in chat is meaning he forgot to do something @Ares_Xena is a global mod if it was a against the rules he would have not said that. He knows what he is doing other words responsible and if it was against the rules he would be responsible for saying the word "Dayum"

 

Damn? I say damn all the goddamn time it's like a damn stable in my lexicon that was goddamn pretentious to say but my point is I don't believe it is, but sure if it's a swear a staff can edit this post to say unicorns or positive things instead of damn. Damn.

I don't mean any disrespect, but why would you call out a fellow staff member in public instead of messaging him privately? You are a team here right? I don't care how much you may disagree with his actions calling him out like this lacks tact and it's no action a team member should take against another.

You could have PM'd him?
Suggested other means of handling the situation?
If you felt that he was abusing purposefully you could have even contacted Cyp or the Head Mod about it privately.

This is exactly the issue here.
These staff members attack each other instead of being a team.
I honestly expected more from you.

Anyway, just my opinion.
I never would have called you out this way if we were staff together and you had made a questionable move or mistake. :/

God damn, that was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my goddamn life. God damn.


But no I think that there is definitely a line between saying something related or similar to a swear word (such as the aforementioned "dayum") and bypassing the filter with punctuation or color codes, but the former shouldn't be punishable for the most part unless it's for spam.
If parents don't want their kids exposed to mildly offensive words that's really their call in my opinion.

 

For whatever reason, "Sh**" isn't on the pwn filter. It is swearing, and should be punished as a swear. "Crap" and "Damn" aren't anything major and shouldn't be worthy of a punishment. This is all in my opinion of corse. Excuse my typing, I'm not typing on a computer.

 

Damn and Dayum are not swear words alone. I say Dayum a lot because of how stupid putting Damn in the filter is. Now using something disrespectful like Goddamn or something would be wrong. But it is a very minor swear compared to the words almost always filtered like the f word, the c words and the s word. Though I have actually seen more people find certain swears acceptable by their culture. Generally mods need to steer clear of profanity and be very careful in the words we use and players need to realise that swearing is something you should do in private.

And to answer the poll, from a moderating standpoint for example, if the F word wasnt in the filter it does not make it acceptable to say. So if a word is not filtered it does not make it ok to say. However there are doing to be exceptions.

 

Damn isn't a swear word.

Again, ive openly used the words damn and crap in chat. Its fine to use those words. Whats not ok is the other swears and offensive language.
