    I agree with this completely.

I also think staff should have like a training before being hired, as I've seen some staff not even know what some commands do.

Things like this has been suggested, many, many times before. Cyp stated that he will not be adding Helpers, trial/Jr. Moderators, etc., for a long time.

But for you guys and gals that would like him to see this @CypriotMerks.

I for one have strong mixed feelings about this and more are towards the negative, however I was asked to pass this along to cyp. He checks my tags of him.

I do not disagree with you at all. The thread of the title is perhaps misleading, but I believe a "helper" style role to still be valuable.

I suppose my greatest argument in favor of this idea is the trial period that it offers to potential Moderator candidates. I say this because I believe that while the current Moderator application process is solid, it still has a number of flaws in it that I believe this role would help to address.

The current process of filling out an application and having the community offer critiques based on experiences with the player and content of the application is a great foundation. This process however does not necessarily give a "real world" look into how a player would respond if given a position of authority and often players supporting a player have nothing but the application as the basis. This offers the chance for someone to "look good on paper" but not work out when put in the role. I cannot stress how often in various games I have seen people change when given larger responsibilities that they are not always capable of handling. This can be either through lack of experience/knowledge for what the role truly is, or can be personality issues that are brought to light with the increased powers granted.

While this idea does not eliminate this risk completely, it gives people a small amount of that authority to see how they wield it. If they wield it poorly, with arrogance or disregard for the rules and community, then obviously they should be moved back down while the powers they wield are smaller. If someone were to be selected directly to a Moderator role, the powers granted are greater, thus the potential for greater abuse.

The cycle that this can create, is that should a poor moderator be chosen and have to be demoted, it can make the process for future moderators that much more difficult. They have to be vetted that much more thoroughly, or are under a microscope so that any mistakes are magnified based on a past bad candidate.

With this helper style role, you would potentially even be able to introduce an informal mentor system of sorts. This would offer the chance for the existing moderator staff to help coach the helpers by allowing them to see a bit more of how the current staff handles situations and when various punishments should be applied. This should overtime help lead to a more consistent application of the rules across all servers.

I apologize on the length of this post, but wanted to put some of my thoughts and feelings out there, not just in regards to this community, but ones I have played with in the past. I understand that much of what is contained in the post may or may not apply to MineVerse, but I wanted to present all of the angles based on my experience.

    Cheers,
    Melgrath

If cyp adds this he will most likely add it like this as he has Pexes Trial mods on skyblock.net

There forums Names say T-Mod and they get a blue (not red) name ingame with less commands ingame
