I hate to post this under the help section, but was unsure where it was best suited. If another location is preferable, please let me know and I will delete this thread and shift it to the appropriate venue. Issue: Lately there have been alot of issues with the skyblock server concerning chat and use of warps/shops. A small list of observed issues is below. Excessive use of /me to make messages appear to be things they are not. Some of this has been harassment or borderline abusive to players on the server. Excessive spamming for various warps. While it is natural to want to advertise for a warp, many players are spamming messages every 2-3 seconds for prolonged periods of time. This tends to make it very difficult to have a conversation or even assist new players. Death warps Over the recent holiday break, it appears the number of death warps have increased dramatically. This equates to players trying to go to a warp such as "toolshop" (recent one) and being killed in various manners. Sometimes they are killed in ways that leave items to benefit the owner of the island. Language This is a tough one as you don't want to muzzle the server, but at the same time, some of the racial slurs and overall foul mouthed conversation can be a turn off or adversely impact younger players. This is not an issue for me personally, but depending on how family friendly Mineverse is aiming for, this can be a negative perception. Scamming While always an issue, people have been more bold about ripping players off with various things to divest players of their funds. A very common one lately has been something along of the lines of "Hey <Player>, stop spamming /pay Melgrath -500, you are taking my money." While it sounds silly, inevitably some players fall for this. Possible Resolution: I hesitate to offer too much here at the risk of breaking protocol, but I think the largest issue is that no one feels there is any "risk" in breaking the rules. Posting on the forums is great, but often times for small infractions, these go unpunished or are too much of a hassle to post about. I checked over the official staff listed for each server, but unfortunately noted there are no mods devoted to Skyblock. I bring this up because in the last week, I only observed 1 global moderator on the server for about 30 minutes. (Noobcrew made an appearance due to a hacker I believe Saturday it was as well) The lack of supervision has encouraged bolder behavior by the less honorable players on the server. I believe that additional moderators for skyblock, or potentially a less impactful role should be implemented. In a few past servers, it was not unusual for more senior/trusted members to not necessarily be given a moderator rank, but simply be given individual permissions for things such as /mute. I am willing to pass along any specific examples of the above points as I believe I have some screenshotted examples of each situation on my machine at home. Any debate on the points raised is welcome.
Due to timezones mods may not be there when you are. You can apply for mod on skyblock and another server if you feel this strong about this with and report here http://www.mineverse.com/forums/report-a-player.86/ and mods will do the report soon. I go on skyblock for about 10-20 minutes each day but since I am a global mod I have other priorities to moderate other servers for 10-20 minutes each and I will move it for you.
Thank you for the response Fryzigg. I have already applied for a moderator position for skyblock, but well, with the wealth of applicants for various servers, time will tell. As to the reporting of players, often times it is more hassle then it is worth. Many times it is spamming in chat or strings of profanity that just cause an overall poor playing experience and there are just too many to report currently. I do appreciate you taking the time as a global moderator to check in daily as I understand the larger responsibilities you have to Mineverse. Kind Regards, Melgrath
