I want a general understanding of this because I hear different arguments. Obviously, releasing private info is a bannable offense. Would releasing who a player's alt is be considered releasing private info? The argument that all the staff make against giving new mods /alts is because knowing a person's alts is considered knowing private information, so using this logic, leaking someone's alts should be bannable. I want to hear opinions (especially of staff members) because I constantly see people being like "Sniff = SmallPecker!!!", and obviously if people are doing this, the person doesn't want this alt to be outted to the public.
No, the rule bans a player for providing another player's private information. Private information is something such as an address or full name that can be used to identify an individual. Personal information is something personal such as your age(DOB is private) or gender that can't be used to identify you. An alt would fall under personal information rather than private information. (If your alts username contains private information like your name it's your own fault, not the one say it's your alt.)
Releasing Private Information: Do not release private information of anyone on Mineverse. This includes but is not limited to IP addresses, addresses, phone numbers, names, or Skype usernames. The severity of private information & punishment will be determined by this: Any personal info that is released (names, Skype username, social media username, zip code, town name, school name) will be handled as: 1st offense: 7d 2nd offense: 1 month 3rd: Perm (This must be reported by the player whose name/photo was released, not all players mind if this information is used) Very personal info such as ip addresses, phone numbers, DOX info, home addresses, email address, and passwords 1st offense: 1 month lobby ban 2nd offense: Perm lobby ban We reserve the right to instantly perm ban accounts. The rule seems to use the words “private” and “personal” interchangeably, so I’m sorry for any confusion that I might’ve made. However, if the case is that revealing someone’s alts isn’t releasing private/personal info, is there an argument not to give the lower staff /alts? If the information really isn’t private or personal, I see no issue with this. If you side with it being bannable, then we really need a solidification of a rule. If you side with it not being bannable, then I don’t see any reason not to give all staff /alts.
I agree with the give all staff /alts part, for the bannable part I don’t. Exposing alts isn’t really exposing any specific details such as their name, location, addy, etc. Of course the player whose alts had just been exposed will be feeling a lot of resentment towards the person that exposed their alts and may take revenge in whatever way. But I do not think that it should be bannable, at the very most a short mute.
This is really true personally I want my alts to be hidden from the public thats why I use a alt, I usually get targetted and I am usually spammed "Botter" "Video Stealer" which is annoying so I play on my alt, I feel like it shouldn't be bannable but make it so if a staff members outs alts they get demoted, or even worse banned.
Well why is this abuse but regular players revealing the alts of other players isn’t? Both of them have negative intention and are revealing something that the other player doesn’t want to be revealed.
Regular players can only reveal someones alt if they've already admitted to being that person at one point if they haven't admitted it's their alt you can't reveal whos alt it is as there is no proof, just a guess. Mods can check players ips and reveal alts. I'm not saying a mod revealing an alt is abuse, I'm saying them using ip checks to reveal them is abuse. It's abusing the command for an unintended purpose, it's no different from them reading your in game pms and sharing them.
