Title says it all. Applies to all gamemodes - especially the active (1) ones. Why? Sometimes you just want some peace and quiet but you can't do that with chat on. Maybe you'd also want to talk to your coop/party/faction so pressing F1 isn't a great idea. FYI: This used to exist in the form of doing /buy → /ec. Priceless. Multiple benefits in one. Everybody stops talking in chat and you can still see your incoming messages, health bar, and inventory. Postscript: /ignore everyone in chat would work (and is currently the only option), but that's not very practical is it? Thanks for reading. Leave a vote rating, please. ----- Notes: (1): Activity is subjective. I'm talking 20+ people online with around half a dozen chatting.
It is possible to turn off our chat in Minecraft settings, but that does affect our ability to perform other needed commands, so that's not really a viable option. I think this suggestion sounds good. Support.
Only issue I see is if staff tried to talk to you but you had your chat off so you wouldn't be able to see it. Would us staff be able to bypass it?
Thanks for the replies everyone. If the /buy → /ec way of muting global chat was brought back, yes, all private messages would bypass it unless the player had manually /ignore d the person. Some plugins are "able to mute the chat for everyone, except for those with a certain permission node" - that would function slightly differently from /buy → /ec. But I've only ever known /buy → /ec and how effective it is, so I'd like that added back, if possible, and if not, have another global muting plugin added.
support! this would be a great idea for so many reasons- younger players have the option to turn off chat in order to avoid reading anything unsafe for little eyes chat can be distracting when trying to focus on something, e.g. in skywars / pvp game modes you could still see private messages, meaning people can still contact you if needed (unless you mean for this to be toggled aswell?) the only downside i’d have to this is people being unable to see moderators messages in chat, unless there could be a way around this?
Support. I'm sure there would be a way for us staff's messages to be shown even with this feature being toggled on.
No support, This is already a thing within Minecraft itself therefore I don't think there's a need to put time into this being added. If you go to 'Options' --> 'Chat settings' then you can not only toggle your chat on/off but you can also toggle it to be only commands seen. (This obviously also includes your /msg's) The one thing you talking about with players being ignored will stay ignored will obviously also still work. A quick example of a message from our beloved Atom whilst me having commands only on (This also shows Broadcasts/Console messages). https://medal.tv/clips/26208362/d1337OxhkHUy
@Vem I also tried that and no supported, however after I tested it I found out it doesn't work for all gamemodes. Here is some proof :
Kudos. There you go @Vem I'd reply with a lengthy post but that video says it all. Thanks for bringing up that in-minecraft setting nonetheless.
So would that be due to the chat maybe making everything a command or what? xd I feel like that's more appropriate to fix as everyone should know how to turn their chat off in-game using the regular Minecraft client.
Possibly... But if you turn your chat off completely not even staff will be able to reach out to you. I also tested if the usual "pop" sound msgs make when received can be heard and I can confirm it is extremely inconsistent.
