Mineverse has to change up quite a few things in my opinion but one of the things I believe they should change is how they handle banning "Leaking Personal Information". I just crossed my mind after my friend recently got banned for saying the name "*****" in chat. The name that he said was the user discord handle but yet he was still banned for leaking this information. How is it possible to be banned for leaking when this information is already public. Don't get me wrong there are many valid bans for Leaking Personal Info, but they should not be overshadowed by the bans that are incorrect.

I got banned for a week for calling Capitaine_Morgan "morgie" on his alt, an alt everyone knows is his, his discord name is morgan, the account was even listed on his forums account.
I've reported people for leaking my name and the mods always have one of these excuses. "Your past ign has your name in it" "Your discord name has your name in it" "Your main account has your name in it" so we cant ban him for leaking your name.

It seems the mods just choose who to punish based on their own opinion of the player, the mods dont like me so they punish me with minimal evidence.

If the discord user is in the official Mineverse Discord and can be linked to the player ingame, he can be unbanned. The rule is in place to punish everyone equally rather than do it on a case by case basis. Sometimes the stuff leaked is harmless, other times it is not. If you're smart you just leave realnames outside of minecraft. Either way I'd recommend your friend to appeal and see how it goes.

If you've revealed your realname publicly, we require more than them to just say it. If you provide screenshots or a video where you tell them you don't want them saying it in chat and them continuing to say it, they'll be punished accordingly too. The person needs to be made aware you're not okay with it before being punished.

I find this absolutely stupid. Your friend gets BANNED for saying a name but I've had people get a WARNING for leaking my city/address because it was their "First offense." Like what the hell is that?

@Apocalypses Handled my report. When I asked him if I would only get a WARNING if I leaked HIS address in the chat, he told me I would only get a warning since it was my first offense.

I find this incredibly and utterly stupid how someone can get banned for saying someone's name but simply just warned for leaking an actual location. It's comical.

Any leak of personal info without consent should be a permanent ban. This kind of stuff has gone too far. It's literally Minecraft, people get too mad at a video game to the point where they are so mentally unstable they have to go and leak someone's info. Not cool.

I agree with the name in chat being handled as releasing personal information. There was a time when I cared about my irl name being kept secret and I only told a certain amount of people. When people started saying it in-game it scared me a little and it sucked. All private information should be kept private and if exposed, should be treated fairly.

I'll quote the rules for you:

Any personal info that is released (names, Skype username, social media username, zip code, town name, school name) will be handled as:
      1st offense: 7d
      2nd offense: 1 month
      3rd: Perm
(This must be reported by the player whose name/photo was released, not all players mind if this information is used)

Citynames are considered equal to realnames. If he only received a warning that would usually mean they said the city in a way that made Apoc think it wasn't referring to you. Talk with Apoc why it was a warning and read the rules before bashing on them. If your actual address was leaked, that would be a 31d ban or a perm ban depending on punishment history and such.

Either way I'll be closing this suggestion as what you're suggesting is already the case. I'd still recommend being cautious when saying realnames as you won't be unbanned unless the discord account can be linked to the minecraft account. If you're smart you simply don't say realnames in chat.
