I see your point but I personally rather go on an adventure through the end looking for this item and getting extremely excited when I finally find one then buy it off some person who may or may not ever log back on. Also eventually shulkers will run out too there is another reason to reset the end cities.
If we do this, the elytra market plummets immediately. And anyways, I'm a greedy person who wants to hog all the elytras for myself and not share. No Support.
And this is one very simple reason people don’t want to play anymore. I actually know two people who left the server because they realized all the elytras were taken. People who actually had them were too stingy to share or sell them. But hey that’s all cool, I guess when eventually all elytras are stowed away in vaults or are all broken, so literally nobody will have one... maybe then you’ll be like “hmmmm probably should of supported that thread” but hey whatever XD Not to mention if elytras are such a rare item then who would want to take them out and risk losing them? Kind of defeats the purpose of elytras even being around then.
How on earth will they be a rare item if every Tom, Dick, and Charlie Joe can buy or collect them easily?
Compare getting an elytra on a server with multiple people vs getting a block of wood on a server with multiple people. Wood is a dime a dozen but it’s still gonna be rare to see an elytra Also it’s not exactly “easy” to collect them

But the Dragon egg literally has no purpose/use but elytras let you fly and therefore have a use and a purpose.
I'd still rather have them as a rare than letting everyone openly have them. Kind of ruins the exclusiveness of the elytra.
ok look as i explained before , nobody is willing to trade because they are either selfish or because they have kept elytra's for their friends. Most people dont want to trade. they want to stockpile , then not come online , those elytras are worth about 100,000$ survival currency though but another reason the elytra is impossible to buy is because of that stupid balcap , everyone selling elytra's have their balance full and everyone refuses to sell elytra's. mostly the people who came to survival in the first week got all the elytra's , 2nd week people (like me) got elytras for sale from trades ... (week 3-5) nobody sells anymore and everyone has stockpiled. WE NEED MORE ELYTRA's , perhaps not in /shop because purpose is lost , but an extended end? and we need that balcap to go. xD
Yeah because you have some obviously. Try and think about how others who don’t have them feel. Not to mention people who have them don’t want to use them because they are scared of losing them which therefore defeats the purpose of them being in game. The survival is survival... everyone should have an equal chance at getting the items they want.

Well eventually they’ll be an item nobody will have because people who have them will either stop playing or they’ll all be broken. So they’ll eventually not be a rare item but an extinct item
