I think we have all been scammed on minecraft. Due to unfortunate experience, I have recently been scammed. I provided all the correct and sufficient proof and didn't get a penny back! I don't know why refunds are not given, as I clearly showed that I got scammed. This isn't a one server thing either, it happens on almost every server on Mineverse, arguably, people could say that people would try and dupe this way, effectively 'scamming mods', but as long as the Mods checked all their MC accounts to see they aren't just 'scamming' with their alts, surely refunds should be a thing? In order for mods to check MC accounts, there is a command which is /Whois (username of acc), this command checks the players IP and matches it to any other player who has logged in with the same IP, (Same IP = same wifi area = alts). I do not know if Minverse has this command/plugin, but other Servers that Cyp and Noob own do. In conclusion, I believe Cypriot should allow Mods to refund every item lost during a scam, as long as sufficient proof was provided, and an IP check was performed. If you don't support, leave your reasons! I'd love to know why. Edit: If a new and improved, reliable 1 to 1 trading system was added, scamming wouldn't be an issue and then neither would be refunding? 'I want to trade with money' Cyp can make it so we can /Withdraw and our money will turn into a note/map. This can be claimed by right clicking it. Reasons for this would mean your money will become an item, and could be /traded.
No support, how is a mod meant to check all their alts? Plus, they could just get a friend to 'scam' them which would work the same.
The alts are checked through a command, its like /whois. It's a real command, it checks all of the players/minecraft accounts logged in through the players IP. And yes, this is a problem, but the consequences for scamming would increase, meaning the 'friend' would receive a harsh punishment.
No support. I agree with daesang. Somebody could just pretend to get scammed by their alt and then get the refund and have the alt pay them some 'scammed' money too.
You could check the players balance/ server logs to see the scammer give the money back? And again, /Whois
Yes, but how are the mods meant to know if one is actually being scammed or it is just a friend? You say about /whois, but reports on scamming are after the event has happened, and mods can't /whois if the player [scammer] is not online.
You can /whois whoever has logged on the server, thats the whole point of it. /Whois lists every account ever logged on with the same IP as the searched name. It is used alot on Noobcrews and Cypriot's Skyblock.org / Skyblock.net servers. I know what I'm talking about xo
hun I'm talking about scamming, not /whois. What I'm saying is that even if /whois does catch out alts, it cannot catch friends/associates who are fake scamming.
If you had an alt and pretended to get scammed by it to get stuff, couldn't you just have that alt ingame and make it pay you the stuff instead of wasting the mods time?
hm? I don't get your point. If your money was going to be refunded, the fake-scammer would just keep the original 'scammed' money and the person who was 'scammed' would simply get the refunded money and/or items. If that's what you're getting at.
Ah right, so you're saying remove the money from the scammer's account and add the same amount to the scammed account, even if it is offline. If so, that would work and I agree w/ that, but this wouldn't work for items (as you stated in the thread that items would be refunded as well).
For items scammed, the account with the items on it would be banned for a month, at the end of the month, the scammer has the opportunity to give back what he scammed, if failing to do so, will be banned again?
I can see this working, but the one issue is the effort it requires. For example, after being banned, getting the scammer, the scammed account plus a mod perhaps would be difficult. However, this does seem like a pretty good system which would prevent scamming.
Senior mods can check potential alternative accounts already. I guess the player who scammed you could get everything reset back to before they received whatever someone bought them, but they could have given it to someone else already. If something like this was to be implemented, I think the refund should be less than what you actually paid and must be reported shortly after the scam.
