I would like to address a serious topic about the filter on the skywars server. This may correlate to other servers, but just for the time being, I couldn't check.. But the censorship of saying the word "Gay" is considered a swear word? Action could be taken? (If you type gay in the chat, it is censored by four stars (****) and a message is noted, "Please do not swear, otherwise an action will be taken!)

I honestly think this is ridiculous, and offensive to a ton of people. When you basically insult an entire group of people calling their kind a "swear" word, how much hate do you expect to get?

All I'm asking is to PLEASE fix this. I have a couple of gay friends and one of them even refuses to play on the server because of this. I get some people think that this could be used as an insult, which is by all means terrible.

*Edit: First, I would like to sincerely thank you all for the amount of support this post has, that being said, Someone said that Cyp recalled that "gay" could be used an insult, and from a perspective, I could partially agree. I highly doubt he would change this after seeing this post, or just a couple of people complaining about it. I guess now I'm just really hoping he changes the output on when it says "Please do not swear," This could be changed by either
A) Completely remove the output message, and keep it as stars
B) Change the message, as to something more like, "Please do not use this word, as it could be offensive to some players"

This topic has been brought up plenty of times. Despite that it is such a common complaint, no one has changed this. Therefor it will probably stay as the way it currently is.

 

It's such a simple change, and it really is a major topic, despite it being brought up numerous amounts of people. It would just be a little change, with a great meaning, which some people could be thankful of. Just my sincere thoughts.

 

This word can be used to offend someone if somone says it in one way or can offend a person in another its a very tedious topic as we can see, Im pulled both ways honestly, its sad to see a server be broken up by this stuff D:

 

People use this word to offend or insult others. That's the only reason why it's filtered.

 

How could this word be used to offend? It makes no sense to me. So what if someone says you're gay...it's either true or it's not. It's like calling a female a male or vice versa.

 

Cypriot has said it many times where people suggested to remove the word "gay" from the filter. He said he would not remove it because it can be used as an insult and a huge skimirish would start.

 

I'm honestly completely fine with it being censored. As long as it's not considered a 'swear' word when the text "please do not swear"

The word "Gay" can be used as a swear word, although it can be very offensive to some people by calling it a "Swear" word.

 

The message is automated with the filter. Cypriot did not go out of the way to call it a "swear" nor do I think he believes that.

 

I see where @CypriotMerks comes from when he says it's used as a swear word, but honestly, it's offensive to homo sexuals. Moderators go their way to say to report rulebreakers, and swearing or offensive language is an offence. So just report them.

 

Cypriot never called it a swear. The plugin that MV uses automatically puts that for filtered words

 

Yeah, and the output can be edited.

Only in 2016 do people complain about something so insignificant, this isn't offending anyone, it has and will continue to be used as an insult, the only reason I would say to remove this from the filter is because it is not actually a swear, just an insult.

 

The filter works just fine at the moment, sure there are some words which could be uncensored however it's not going to change or affect anyone. So I really do not see the whole fuss around the new filter.

 

The only word I'd like removed is wtf, it is widely used and not really considered a swear.

 

yes but some people can get offended by that as i said, many people in the community are split on this and again i am too, its a very tidious topic and we need to work out something for now
